I just spoke to a 15-year old relative, and was appalled that when I asked to speak to her father, she answered that he was not around, and hasn't been for the past two days. I asked her where he went, and she answered "I don't know. I think they are gambling at a casino"
She is living in New York, and I was wondering if someone should be called on this, as she has been facing some issues this past week that has required counseling for depression.
There are no NY laws concerning this.

Their view is that it depends on the individual child, saying "Some children are responsible, intelligent, and independent enough to be left alone at 12 or 13 years of age. Likewise, there are some teenagers who are too irresponsible or who have special needs that limit their ability to be safe if they are left alone."

Both the taking of the false report and the ensuing investigation are a misuse of valuable resources intended for the care and protection of New York State's vulnerable or at-risk children.
According to Section 240.50 of the New York State Penal Law, falsely reporting an incident to the State Central Register is a Class A misdemeanor.

went to see my grandmother because she is dying. I slept in the hospital and stood by her. She is going to die. Should I have blown work off or do you think I am right to go home and then go back for the funeral? My parents and aunts and uncles are there. I also don't want to waste all my vacation time since my grandpa is sick too.
I don't think you're doing anything wrong. You were there with your grandmother. You said with her in the hospital, and I'm assuming you said your goodbyes.
I really don't think Grandma would want you to grind your life to a halt just for her. Besides, it sounds to me like she's got other family around her.

Well my step mom and my dad recently split up, i usually go to Indiana for Winter break but this year it could be extremly awkward, but every other year i have fun with my step mom's family and get LOTS of presents. I could stay home in New York and face a pretty boring lonely christmas. Either way it wont be that fun, but what do you guys think i should do?
i think if you want to have fun with your previous step mom and her family, then you should be able to.
my aunt married a man who already had a son, divorced him, and married someone else.
we have always treated his son as part of the family, even now. I think it is perfectly fine for you to spend Christmas with your step mom.

My friend, there are 2 ways to get from New York City to Hartford.
Option 1 - you can take Metro-North's New Haven Line from Grand Central to New Haven-Union Station. Once there, you can transfer to Amtrak's Springfield Shuttle, which will take you from New Haven to Hartford.
The fare on the New Haven Line from NYC to New Haven will cost you $18.50 one way peak/$14 one way off peak. The fare on Amtrak's Springfield Shuttle from New Haven to Hartford will coast you anywhere from $11 to $19 one way.
Option 2 - you can take Amtrak's Northeast Regional service from New York Penn Station to Hartford. A way ticket will range from $34 to $59.

Sales in many vacation communities across the U.S. soared last year to levels not seen since boom times, driven by deep discounts, cash purchases and buyers’ rising stock portfolios.
On Mercer Island, Wash., waterfront sales nearly tripled in 2010, compared with a year earlier, reaching par with 2006 volume there. Sales on Hilton Head Island, S.C., rose 14% for the year. Palm Beach, Fla., experienced a 40% annual increase and a 54% increase in homes under contract, indicating an especially strong fourth quarter. Palm Beach sales volume now is comparable to its 2007 peak. These figures were gleaned by brokers in each locale.
“The proverbial train has left the station,” said Ned Monell, an agent with Sotheby’s International Realty in Palm Beach. “We haven’t felt energy like this in a long time. Buyers sense that they’ve been on the sidelines long enough.”
The question now is whether the momentum will last. The strength of second-home sales paints a stark contrast to the overall housing market, which is expected to worsen in 2011.
