Sacramento New Home

We have the original HVAC units in place on a home built in 1991 and the blower blew out in the furnace. Previously we have had no problems (not a one) with the system. The piece is available online for $350.

I called in a local HVAC company, well advertised in the area, and they quoted me $8900. The equipment is from a company called Goodman and includes a variable speed furnace, coil, and air conditioning unit. All ducts in the home are good. (I have found the exact equipment available online from http://www.acdirect.com for $2,700.

What should I do?

Call a different company.

First of all, the blower motor is replacable for a couple hundred bucks including labor. No need to replace whole system.

Second of all, the brand name Goodman stinks. Do not go with Goodman or Janitrol. If you do have the replace the whole friggen system, go with a repitable name like York, Carrier, Bryant, or Trane.

Not sure how big your house is, but $8900 sounds like a big rip off to me.

I have gotten several quotes from reputable area HVAC providers that have had several thousands of dollars between them. It pays to shop around.

Need new relay installed. Any electricians in the Sacramento, CA area work on these systems?

I am not in your area but you can replace it yourself find the bad relay turn power off disconnect the wireing on the relay replace with same kind reconnect wireing

I'm planning to move from San Jose, CA to the Sacramento or Dallas/Ft Worth area because it is too expensive here. I would really like to buy a home, but it is impossible in San Jose. I know I can still buy a brand new home in the Dallas area for around $100K but I'm afraid of the narrow minded (I'm gay) thinking out there. So I was wondering as one last ditch to stay in California if anyone knew of any less expensive places around Sacramento. I'm willing to commute up to 1 hour.

The Sac valley climate supports Apples, Oranges, Cherries, You best bet is to plant them in the ground. Give Bushnell's nursery in Roseville a call. The will give you good info and have hundreds or trees, ready to plant.
