Long story short...
We paid $225,000 for a home in Orlando, Florida 3 years ago before the market went down the drain. Things happened, and our income was cut in half. We were able to get our mortgage modified, but we don't want to be here for much longer. Our house is now only worth about $130,000, tops. If we sold it through a short sale, would that extra $100,000 be our problem, or would the banks write that off? How soon after that short sale would my husband and I be able to buy a new, less expensive house? Thanks!

If you can get your mortgage company to do a "non recourse" short sale, then you will not owe the difference between the sale price and the mortgage balance. However if the short sale is a "recourse" short sale, then you will owe the difference. I believe that it will be about 2-3 years before you would be able to buy another home. You should check with lenders in your area because in some localities it is a shorter waiting time and in others it is longer.

Just so she keeps in mind by taking in a 'free' dog she could be bringing home a dog that needs lots of medical care and that free dog could end up costing her more than an AKC registered dog from a reputable breeder.

She can look on Craigslist in her area and in the paper.

Why doesn't she go to a rescue group and adopt a rescue dog? They have been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, usually micro-chipped, health checked and any medical issues treated. In the long run, she will spend less getting a rescue.

What? You are not going to use your food stamps to feed yourself now? And then you are going to just go hog wild to fill up your new fridge at the end of the year? That is not what they are for. This isn't a savings account for you. This is sad. You want others to work hard and pay taxes so, you can fill your fridge when you move.

Will you come fill mine right now instead? Since I have to wait until my next paycheck to get groceries and all we have is ramen noodles and mac and cheese.

I am a Disabled veteran who will probably NOT be able to walk this time next year .
I have NO family here that can help me and need very badly to move back up to ohio where I have a couple of friends who will move in and help me with my daily quality of life .
