looking for how to on building your own home start to finish
I know people who built their own home from start to finish. They began with a trip to the libary to check out books on carpentry, blueprint reading, etc. Some community colleges have classes in these things, too. It was a challenge, but they were fantastic places when they were finished so Good Luck to you, I'd love to see pics when you are finished!
Here are some links but I don't know how much help they will be. You'll probably need to look up each item individually to some extent. http://doityourself.com/plans/ is a great place to get started and it has bulletin boards to talk with others about your project.
Here are a couple of links.

I am looking to build a new home and would like to know if there are any available tax credits or grants that I could apply for. I have a middle income.
There aren't any federal or state ones, but a few cities have grants.
I heard that home owners who have a mortgage that is under water (meaning that their house is worth less than the mortgage) could get to refinance at the lower rates.
Does that mean that i can do this, i'm also underwater, make my payments every month. my interest rate right now is 5.85% fix 30 year loan, and i have a good fico score. do u think i can get a lower rate under this new plan?
Full eligibility details will be published March 4, but here are the basic criteria from what I've gathered on the treasury website:
1. Your loan must be backed or secured through either Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac.
2. You must have been doing a good job of keeping up with your mortgage payments up to date.
3. You will need to show that your income will allow you to continue covering payments even after refinancing.
If it is standard framing it can be done without an engineer. Begin with the UBC (Uniform Building Code) volume two. The trusses will still need to be engineered though. I would suggest hiring a licensed civil engineer to do it all, it is pretty cheap.
I work for a custom home builder and am currently working on new floor plan ideas. When purchasing a new home what are some features that make / break a home for you? Is there anything specific you look for when you tour potential homes? Please keep in mind that these homes are priced mid-higher end for our region. What are the average number of bedrooms and baths you look for? Is there a specific kitchen cabinet finish or granite finish you look for? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated as we build mainly spec homes that go on the market and then need to appeal to the mass of home buyers.
when looking at homes, there was always one room that sold the home. make one room so special. i think where the whole family gathers, a kitchen, den, playroom and make it as outstanding as you can something unique in there that you just don't see in every home....always 2 1/2 bath. not too big, not too small just right....
