I have a 12 year old Cocker who is now partially blind and deaf but is still happy and healthy considering. My home is being rebuilt for the next 4 months and my dog has moved to the in-laws and is barking all night and they are ready to give him a one way trip to the vet.
Any suggestions on finding this dog a new home in NJ ASAP
I do not want to put the dog down and I know he wants to go home but we can't do that for 4 months.
I live in NJ and if I could take him I would!
But in the meantime you can try posting an AD on http://www.craigslist.org .. click on New Jersey on the right side .. then pick the city nearest to you (or yours, if they have it) and then under COMMUNITY, click on PETS and then theres a button to post an AD.
Just say you have a 12 year old cocker spaniel who is deaf and blind who just needs a new home for his last remaining years due to house renovations. Have a 60-100$ adoption fee (to ward off puppymillers/brokers/scam people). If someone replys and says they are interested in your dog, ask to meet them somewhere where you can interview them and ask to see their living conditions. After that if they have any other dogs, bring your dog and theirs to a park where neither has been before to see if they get along. If they dont have pets, bring your dog along to see how your dog reacts to them.
Make sure he is getting the next best home there is.
You CANNN also find a shelter in NJ to bring him to: http://www.petfinder.com/pet.cgi .. or ask friends/other family. Where are you living these 4 months? You can see if there are any pet friendly hotels that are a good price near you so he can stay with you until your house is done being rebuilt. It's worth a try, looking. Honestly, not alot of people are willing to rehome a blind, deaf, 12 year old dog. I love old dogs and would LOVE to take him like I said, but I can't. There arent alot of people who would though, so prepare for that.
Hope this helps!
Oh, and if you post an AD on craigslist try to put a picture of him on there. Preferably one where he is playing in the yard or something .. other than being lazy .. so people can see that he is still lively for an old dog.
Good luck! Let us know what happens!

I see alot of older homes being torn down in good neighborhoods in NJ (Morris county). Im wondering if it is cost effective to by a 700K house and tear it down.
I truly don't see how it could be. You would essentially be buying a piece of land for $700,000 & that is not counting the cost to tear down a house, which is expensive. There could be hazardous waste in the house (lead paint or asbestos) that has to be inspected & dealt with separately. There could be salvage companies that will deconstruct a house (there is one here in New England, they don't charge anything to deconstruct but make their money by selling the pieces). I can't imagine building a house, especially in Morris County for less than $200-$250 per sq ft. A 5000 sq ft house will be over $1,000,000 to build. So, add the $700,000 & the owner is into the house $1,700,000, probably more.
If they do that & go to sell, I don't see how they will EVER get their money back out of it, it is completely impossible. Especially now that the market is dropping & dropping fast.
Good Credit
Recently sold our first home (mortgage was in good-standing)
Would have had more money to close on this house if we didn't take such a loss on our townhouse!
Stable Jobs, both have college degrees and still young (only 25 years old)
Not sure of your question, but if you have excellent credit and 3% down FHA should siute you well but there are always other options. Ask your mortgage broker/banker. You can purchase Private Mortgage Insurance instead of going FHA, you can seek seller financing, you can do a 15 year fixed, you can do variable rate, you can do fixed rates with shorter ammortization and a balloon payment....always lots of options, but usually only one or two that best suite your particular needs.
We are thinking of buying a small ranch and tearing it down to biuld a new home or renovating it and adding on. What is the cost per square foot to build a home.
lol that depends alot on what u want sq ft only gets u a ballpark depends on location of house (not where u live terrain) what u want in the house design that fig can vary alot talk to a contractor they give free estimates(most places)gl

New Jersey Real Estate Market Update | Jackson NJ Regional News ...
As a real estate broker I think the question I hear most often day after day is “How’s the market?”. Potential buyers, sellers, and even those not looking to be a part of the marketplace in the near future are always inquiring. It is in that spirit that I am writing this article to summarize the 2010 real estate market and to forecast a bit on the upcoming 2011 market. I have compiled some data from various sources, both local and national, to assist in accomplishing this task.
First to review is the chart above . This is a year to year comparison of closed home sales in the single family division as compiled by the Monmouth County Association of Realtors from 2009 and 2010. As you can see, the earlier part of 2010 saw a steady increase month after month leading up until June where it peaked at over 1,200 closings in one month alone. This activity was a direct result of the extension of the federal 1 time home buyer’s tax credit and the addition of a credit for existing homeowners as well.
