Go read your contract and warranty! Start taking action on this matter...it seems like it is bound to get worse! I think someone posted on one of your other questions: asking your neighbors if they are have all these problems also. I would almost bet that your home is not the only one, since they were built so fast!

We have a "new" home built in the mid-80's, and we'd like to knock some walls down and remodel some areas. Of course we need to know which walls are load-bearing, among other things, so we need the home blueprints. Any idea where we could find this information in Houston, TX?
Our courthouse does NOT keep copies of blue prints of every house built in our county. Engineering will have a copy of the entire subdivision. If it is on its own acreage Planning and Zoning will have a copy of the property survey as will the Clerk of Court. The Building Dept might have a copy of the building permit file for that house. Since it is so older chances are iffy. On the Building Permit will be the name of the builder. Only he will know where he got the floorplans (or another builder that worked with him). Your best bet is to contact a CREDIBLE builder or home inspector. They can inspect your home and tell you which are load bearing walls. You could call an engineer but they will probably cost more. Good luck. PS:In our county you have to be licensed to "knock out walls". just fyi
I read it's the trendy and fashionable thing to do is to have the blueprints of a recently built home framed and matted to hang as a picture. My question is what blueprint should you display. My parentes are building a new house and there are a ton of blueprints. I've seen it before in new homes. I wanted to give it to them as an xmas present but unsure what Blueprints to choose.
If they are true blue prints you are going to be in for a big surprise in a couple of years. Real blue prints are not made for long life. They tend to fade and yellow if exposed to light.
If you want to give them something a bit more permanent, have copies made on a Xerox type machine using bond paper. These type of copies won't last for ever but will last longer than blue prints by a good bit.
You might consider reducing the drawing to a smaller size. Most of the ones for our current house are 11" x 17" or 8 1/2" x 11"
Regular copy paper is an acid based paper and will last for a while but in time start to yellow. Bond or rag paper will last a good bit longer.
As to which prints to use. I would use the plan drawing, a front elevation and one cross section if any are in the set.

I just purchased a new home from Legend home Corp. about a year ago and i wanted to do some renovations to it. Thing is, i would like to know where the wires and cables and studs and etc... without tearing everything apart. I want to obtain the blueprints but have no idea where to get them. I called oncs to the actual builder but they told me they didn't give those out. Is there another way or place i can get them or do i just have to keep trying till i get them? I live in Katy, Tx and i'm in Harris County.
Blue prints of your home wont show you where the wires or plumbing is going. Typical of contractors, they do what they want and run them the shortest distance. To find studs, buy a stud finder or measure from you windows or doors. they will have a full 2x4 or 2x6 next to them. Add 1 1/2" from the outside of your door or window. Studs are on a 16 inch center, meaning studs are placed 16inches from center to center. Find the middle of your stud and cut the Sheetrock. if any wires are there, move them out of the way, its not really a big deal to do that. Most plumbing will be in the interior walls.

Blueprints are much more featured drawings than plain Floor Plans. Blueprints are literal detailed scaled drawings of plans of a residence, building, or construction, which consists of details more than a fundamental floor plan. Your blueprint plans and conditions are the documents utilized by your builder and outworkers to instruct them on how to erect your new home. Each set of blueprints should comprise floor plans; plans for the base and information on footings and casing; front, side and flipside elevations; roof plan; electrical outline and kitchen cupboard layout; and construction details. Each set of blueprints include pointed documentation which fully describe the superiority and specifications of the materials required to complete the erecting of your home. You can employ your detailed blueprints to get accurate estimates of the total cost to build your home. With the advancements in computer software, the progression of designing, a floor plan has really improved and floor plans have now grown to be easier to create and replace. Now complete floor plans can be hoarded and printed just as simple as printing this document from your PC. The thehousedesigners.com offers a wide selection of all-inclusive and faceted blueprints in a wide collection of house styles, home plans and designs to shape any life style whether you are gazing to remodel or put up a new dwelling.
