New Home Based Business

When starting a new company, where can the new business owner apply for initial capital?

I would like to learn from other's people experience (established new business owners) where did they get the money for their first year of business (replacing my previous employee salary and hoping for possible 1-2 projects in the first year of operating). My business is currently home based and it employs only myself.

The Internet is full with these ”apply for government grants” promotions but from what I read it's mainly a scam. More conservative options I read are applying to a loan backed by the SBA or maybe American Express.

Good grief - the amount of people selling stuff to people in their answers and not answering questions in this section is ridiculous!
We took out a second on our house. But at the same time, my husband still maintains his regular job because it will be awhile before we are seeing enough for him to be able to quit.
So if you own and have any equity, that is a possibility. Your options of SBA loans, etc. are good thoughts. If you have good credit, apply for business credit cards - many a businesses are begun that way.

I need to figure out how to manage, streamline and calculate costs for doing shipping. I will be running a small to medium scale cookie mix product business out of my house. Are there any successful home based business people who can help, or anyone who has had to deal with shipping solutions? Thank you!

depending on the volume to plan to ship the USPS is generally the cheapest. Depending on weight and size first class shipping will get the item to your customer in 2-5 days and is trackable. I just do a flat rate shipping so say it costs you $2.50 to shipping you charge $4.95 that covers you supply costs. There flat rate services are great too you pay one price regardless of weight and the boxes are free.

I use UPS as well set-up an account that way you get free daily pick-up and a discount. the cost is going to be higher again depends on volume and where you are shipping too and from.

Get a thermal lable printer you can get a used on ebay for like 100 bucks it is a great thing to have UPS will give you the labels for free don't buy them people sell them on ebay and seriously they are free. But it makes it so easy print never have to buy ink and they are perfect peel and stick. I use them for my usps packages too.

My home business is marketing all sorts of major companies such as Dish Network, AT&T, Lowes, Kohls, etc. It is an amazing opportunity for any lifestyle. I was just looking for a new way to advertise my business on the internet.

Congrats on starting your own home based business. What are you involved in? I'm not sure what you mean by a "forum" the best thing for your business is "word of mouth" get referrals from people and get out there and advertise that way. More cost effective economically speaking. That's all I had done to make my own home based business successful. Word of mouth is the best advertisement that can be done and referrals. Start out with family and friends then move onto other avenues. Without knowing what your product is, it's difficult to tell you anything else but general things.

In addition to your own business cards, ask your family and friends and everyone you've ever done business with to make referrals for you. You might even consider (depending on what you do) giving people who give you business by referrals some sort of discount on your product or service.

And most importantly, make sure that you provide top-notch customer service and make people feel like they're really getting a good product or service for their money. If you do that, the referrals will come naturally.
