How many cords of Wood do I need to stay warm this winter?

I have a small 1200 Square Foot home with 3 bedrooms (two of which are upstairs and the masterbedroom is downstairs). The home is heated with mostly wood in a newer energy efficent wood stove. In addition it has radient heated floors (in the bathroom only) and a small propane heater at the opposite side of the house. I live in Northern New Hampshire where the temp can get as low as 40 BELOW zero at times. I don't like my home too warm...about 62 degrees or so. The house is very well insulated too which should help. Problem is, I have never lived here in winter so I have NO IDEA how many cords of wood I need to buy. Any ideas?
Having the heat at 62 degrees is comfortable to me. We just moved up to Northern, New Hampshire (45 minutes from the Canadian Border) a few months ago. We had lived in MA. I have always hated warm weather. If it gets over 60 I start to be uncomfortable. I have my air conditioner set to 60 degrees. I prefer to be bundled up in blankets and sweatshirts rather then be sweltering hot.

buy 10 cords and keep track of how much you use...what you dont use will keep till next year...

Section 8 Consolidation Program

Become a Section 8 Landlord

Applications for Section 8 or Public Housing are always free at your local housing authority if they are accepting applications. Section8programs.com has no affiliation with HUD, the government or your local housing authority. Our mission is to help those that are low income find applications online for various government rental assistance programs nation wide. In addition, we help our clients to discover many other programs that would benefit a low income person. We charge a small fee for our research which is consolidated in our Online Packet. We can not guarantee that your housing authority is accepting applications at this time, but we do update our Online Packet each week with this information.

Section8programs.com also offers a privately funded grant program, the Section 8 Consolidation Program. This program awards small assistance grants for daily expenses, not housing vouchers. Grantees are selected every 48 hours. Applicants for this grant program help determine who is most in need by voting for others at the end of the application process. This process allows our applicants to see who is being granted and why. All of our grantees receive a small assistance check in the mail about four or five days after applying.

The Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher program is a government subsidized housing assistance program for a low income family or individual. The tenant will pay about 30% to 40% of their monthly income towards their rent. Section 8 will pay for (subsidize) the rest.

Landlords must have their property inspected by a division of their local PHA in order to rent to a Section 8 tenant and accept the Section 8 housing voucher. The landlord will prepare their own lease that will be no less than for one year.

The Section 8 Consolidation Program combines low-income grants with subsidized housing resources for a low income family or individual. This information and application is provided to all applicants in our Section 8 and Subsidized Housing Online Packet. The Section 8 Consolidation Program is a privately funded grant program and is not affiliated with the government, HUD or your local PHA. The grants awarded are small assistance grants intended to help with daily expenses like food or bills.

The Section 8 and Subsidized Housing Online Packet was designed to eliminate certain obstacles. Some of these obstacles include: non awareness of various subsidized housing programs and a shortage of landlords able or willing to accept Section 8 tenants.

By urging landlords nationwide to participate in government subsidized ren

Your question is too long. All you have to do is provide a link to that information. All of this informatin you can see yourself on the HUD website. It is a scam to make money, it is not a government website. It is just someone selling nothing for $12. You cannot apply online. You have to apply to the Housing Agency where you live and go on a waitlist. Don't believe it. They won't help you with anything.

What could be our Perfect dog breed?

Hey! We are looking for a dog, which will make a perfect addition to our family. I'll make a bulleted list of things we are looking for -->
-small in size (up to 15-20 lbs, a lap dog)
-Does not shed (we are willing to get grooming, but both my dad and brother have allergies to fur)
-can stay home for approx. 8-9 hours either in a room or a crate
-relatively easy to train (we will most likely get an adult who should already be trained, i think)
-doesn't need too much exercise, but should be able to go on walks
-friendly with children (6 yr old) and occasional elderly people (60ish)
-able to tolerate both extreme cold and moderate heat (we live in Pennsylvania now, but will move to New Hampshire next year)

yup. we need a breed that doesn't shed, is small, and can stay home for some time

THANK YOU!!

There are multiple breeds that would be good for you. A Miniature Poodle sounds like a great fit. They shed very little (all dogs shed) and are hypoallergenic. They are 11-15 inches tall and between 15-17 lbs. and come in a variety of colors. They are incredibly smart little dogs, and even for their size, athletic. They're very sensitive and in tune with their people. They LOVE to be with their family and need a lot of attention. If you leave it in it's crate for a good portion of the day, you'll need to have it out and with the family the rest of the day. They are easy to train and super intelligent. If they get proper exercise (don't require a ton, but like walks) they'll be mellow in the house. They're good with kids and if the 6 year old is respectful, it should be fine. They do require a bit of grooming however. If you want some coat on them and want them to look cute they need to be brushed and combed out at the very least once a week. And they need to be professionally groomed every 4-6 weeks. They're awesome dogs though. I have a Standard. Here are some cute pics: http://www.iapups4u.com/wp-content/uploa ds/2009/04/minaturepoodleethan.jpg

Another good breed would be a Bichon Frise. They are also low shedding and hypoallergenic. They only come in white. They are between 9-12 inches tall and 7-12 lbs. They are happy, fun, energetic little dogs who are great with kids. They are also very smart and like to learn tricks. Again, like the Poodle, require grooming. They require the same as a Poodle. http://www.dogsindepth.com/nonsporting_d og_breeds/images/bichon_frise_v02.jpg

And lastly another breed that I think would be great would be the Chinese Crested. This breed comes in a hairless variety and a hair variety, called the Powderpuff. They are actually very cute. They are 12 inches and about 10 lbs. They are small dogs with a great, happy, friendly personality and would love to go for walks. They'd be great with kids. They are affectionate, cuddly, and smart. They also require the heavy grooming (Powderpuff variety). Cute pics: http://www.fordogtrainers.com/ProductIma ges/dog-breeds-muzzles/Chinese-Crested-m uzzle-Chinese-Crested.jpg

If none of these appeal to you, here are some other low shedding, small breeds:
Maltese
Shih Tzu
Tibetan Terrier
Havanese
Coton de Tulear
Bolognese
Lhasa Apso

Also, please get your dog from a shelter, rescue, or a responsible breeder. Visit petfinder.com for shelter dogs or akc.org to find the breed club of the breed you decide on. From there you can find good breeders.
Good luck in your breed search!

Need someone to check my work on an Operations Management question. I need a perfect score on this case study.?

Sturdivant Sound Systems manufactures and sells sound systems for both home and audio. All parts of the sound systems, with the exception of CD players, are produced in the Rochester, New York, plant. CD players used in the assembly of Sturdivant's systems are purchased from Morris Electronics of Concord, New Hampshire.
The purchasing agent for Sturdivant Sound Systems submits a purchase requisition for the CD players once every four weeks. The company's annual requirements total 5,000 units (20 per working day), and the cost per unit is $60. (Sturdivant does not purchase in greater quantities because Morris Electronics, the supplier, does not offer quantity discounts.) Rarely does a shortage of CD players occur because Morris promises delivery within one week following receipt of a purchase requisition. (Total time between date of order and date of receipt is 10 days).
Associated with the purchase of each shipment are procurement costs. These costs, which amount to $20 per order, include the costs of preparing the requisition, inspecting and storing the delivered goods, updating inventory records, and issuing a voucher and a check for payment. In addition to procurement costs, Sturdivant Sound Systems incurs inventory carrying costs (aka Holding Costs) that include insurance, storage, handling, taxes, and so forth. These costs equal $6 per unit per year.
Beginning in December of this year, management of Sturdivant Sound Systems will embark on a company-wide cost control program in an attempt to improve its profits. One area to be closely scrutinized for possible cost savings is inventory procurement.
a.Compute the EOQ (aka Optimal Order quantity) of CD players.
b.Determine the appropriate reorder point (in units).
c.Compute the costs savings that the company will realize if it implements the optimal order inventory procurement decision.

My answers:
a) Q0 = the square root of 2x(5000)x20/6 = 183 CD players
b) ROP = 20x10 = reorder when only 200 CD players remain
c) TC = (183/2)x6 + (5000/183)x20 + 60x5000 = $301,095
TC400 = (400/2)x6 + (5000/400) + 60x5000 = $301,450
Thus, the company can save $355 per order if it uses the EOQ number of 183 CD players.

If I've made an error, please let me know where and how to fix it.
Thanks for your time!

Assuming perfectly deterministic system:

a) EOQ = √(2•5'000•20/6) ≈ 182.574 (let's for simplicity leave it without rounding..)

b)
Calendar days per average year = (365•3+366)/4 = 365.25
Working days = 5'000/20 = 250
It says delivery in 10 days (not working days),
thus it's reasonable to assume delivery in 10 calendar days,
of which only 250/365.25≈6.845189 are working days (assuming working/other days are distributed at flat and even rate, but in reality this parameter will tend to be volatile due to long holidays.. etc.)
So consumption/sales during these 10 calendar days is ≈6.845•20≈136.9
Thus reorder point is : ROP≈136.903784

c)
Current system:
Number of weeks per average year ≈365.25/7 ≈ 52.17428571
Order quantity ≈ 5'000•4/ 52.1742857≈383.3305953 CDs
(although ordering quantity may be subject to package size, e.g. CDs may be packed in boxes by 10 or 50 pcs. - so the allowed ordering lot may be only with step by 50 , like 250,300,350,400)
Holding costs ≈ 6•383.33/2≈1'149.99
Ordering costs ≈ 20•5'000/383.33 ≈ 260.87
Holding + Ordering ≈ 1149.99+260.87 ≈ 1410.86

EOQ based system:
EOQ≈182.574
Holding costs ≈ 6•182.574/2 ≈ 547.72
Order cost ≈ 20•5'000/182.574 ≈ 547.72
Holding + Ordering ≈ 547.72+547.72 ≈ 1095.445

Thus difference (savings) between two systems (migrating to more efficient) will be:
Δ ≈ 1410.86-1095.445 ≈ 315.418 (savings)

McCain's Character vs Obama's?

Who do you think has better ethics? Who has the better character?

Before you answer consider the following:

McCain was far deeper in bed with Charles Keating than Obama was with Tony Resko. Keating gave far more to McCain's campaign than Resko gave to Obama's. In fact, Keating was one of McCains' top fundraisers. Keating paid for many McCain vacations and flights to his resort homes, which McCain never disclosed (by law he must as a congressman) until years later during the Keating 5 fiasco. Cindy McCain and her dad invested $400,000 in a Keating strip mall. But here's the big difference, Obama dropped Resko like a wet cigar when Resko's started stinking. McCain on the otherhand, stepped in and tried to prevent a Senate hearing into Keating's fowl deeds. Keatings stench was all over McCain during those hearings. How McCain stayed out of jail is amazing.

OK, I know I know the Keating stuff was 20 years ago. Fair enough, but has McCain changed? Well now, McCain has a whole army of Keatings working for him, more lobbyists than any other presidential candidate in history. He On March 7, 2007, McCain named ex-Texas Representative Tom Loeffler, who has one of the most lucrative and influential practices in the nation's capital, as his campaign co-chair. In the same month, McCain named former Washington Sen. Slade Gorton, now a heavyweight lobbyist, as his honorary chairman for Washington state. Loeffler's client list includes PhRMA, the drug industry association; Southwest Airlines; Toyota; and Martin Marietta. Gorton represents, among others, Burlington Northern Santa Fe Corp., Weyerhaeuser and Fidelity National Financial. In addition, David Crane, now the campaign's senior policy advisor, was a senior executive at The Washington Group, a firm with 2006 billings of $10.4 million and 52 clients, including Delta Airlines, the Association of American Railroads, and the governments of Panama and Bangladesh. And Charlie Black, who is now a campaign spokesman appearing on McCain's behalf on radio, television, and as a "spin-doctor" after debates, is chairman of BKSH & Associates, with lobbying billings of $7.6 million in 2006, representing J.P. Morgan, Occidental and General Motors.

All told, there are 11 current or former lobbyists working for or advising McCain, at least double the number in any other campaign. Among the current and former lobbyists working for McCain are: Campaign CEO Rick Davis, a partner at Davis Manafort, where his clients have included SBC Communications and Verizon; and former Davis Manafort associate, National eCampaign Director Christian Ferry. At the end of 2006, Mike Dennehy, who founded The Dennehy Group, a New Hampshire lobbying firm, was appointed McCain's national political director. He gave up that post in May to become a senior campaign advisor.

McCain's new buddies make Keating look like an amateur. They are far more intelligent than Keating ever was. In otherwords, they are good at hiding the stench of their crookedness.

obama is honest, intelligent and cares about the poor, will give college students money to go to college, will give everyone free health care and those in need tax breaks and make the rich pay their way instead of raping the working class. obama will take from the rich and give to the poor like robin hood. and thats a good thing.

Local Maine businesses speak out in Gov. LePage's red tape audit ...

YORK, Maine — Unfair burdens for businesses bordering New Hampshire. Outdated and inefficient state computer systems. Conflicting regulations. An income tax that forces people over the state line. "Goofy" legislation. Unemployment laws that are tilted away from businesspeople.

And that was just the start when it came to concerns raised Friday morning by about 30 businesspeople at a state-sponsored "red tape audit" at the Cape Neddick Inn.

The audits are being held across Maine at the request of Gov. Paul LePage, who is gathering information from businesspeople about how to streamline rules and regulations. The meeting was sponsored by the Greater York Region Chamber of Commerce.

Attending on behalf of the governor was Mark Ouellette, director of the Office of Business Development in the state Department of Economic and Community Development.

"You are bumping into stuff that is hindering you," said Chamber President Cathy Goodwin. "You know what's wrong with your little piece of the world. But when you hear what's wrong in everyone else's little piece of the world, you'll agree that this is far, far worse than people thought."
