can anyone suggest the best home phone service provider for the new england area?

i just bought a house and i would like to get a land line/home phone. i use my cell phone quite a bit but i want something at home so that i don't have to rack up my cell minutes. can anyone suggest something that offers a good plan but is pretty in expensive? thanks!

I have used Vonage for a while and it does well plus they don't rape you as far as fees. My total bill is like 27.50 after taxes.

When will corn grow high in New England?

A friend from home is getting married in New England where I grew up. My wife is going with me to attend. She's not from there.

My question is when does corn mature? It needs to be a good four feet tall. I've always wanted to make love in a corn field and would like to plan my vacation accordingly. Any New England corn growers out there? Do you often notice couples in your fields? When is harvest usually?

In the midwest the saying goes, "Knee high by the 4th of July." I'd say you are looking at late August or early September if not later in New England.

Where is the best place in New England to buy lobster on the docks ?

My boyfriend and I are planning our first trip to the New England states next week. Our plan is to buy loads of lobster and bring them home. Any ideas or guidance will be appreciated ! Also....what's a good price ? We can go anywhere on the coast and want the best seafood for the best price possible. Thanks for all your ideas !

Where else but the "Lobster Capitol of The World" also known as Rockland, Maine! Prices change daily, but this is the biggest source.
Take I-95 North to the Portland/I-295 exit. Stay on I-295 to the Brunswick/U.S. 1/Coastal Route exit. Go about another 55 mi. to Rockland. The harbor will be in front of you as U.S. 1 turns left. You'll need to ask around at that point. It is a working harbor.

Cost of building a home in the new england area?

I'm living in Connecticut (USA). Things here are not cheap!!!

My fiance and I are planning on having a home built. We've only taken a few steps in the process but we're getting there.

We've made this decision becuase we can get something custom made that fits our budget.

My fiance is much more educated on the subject than I am. My step father is also very familiar with the business (hes consantly buying lots, building houses, and renting them out or selling them)...

I'm just curious, about how much will it cost to build a 1200-1500 square foot house in Connecticut. We're living in the valley so things arent as expensive as they are in other parts of the state, i'm just looking for an estimated guess.
My step fahter is currently building a duplex, when its finished he estimated that he'll have spent a little under 150,000 to build it (2 bathrooms per unit, 3 bedrooms per unit..so a total of 4 bths, 6 beds, and 2 kitchens!

We're just looking for something basic, 3 bedrooms 2 bathrooms a kitchen and a living room...and if theres extra space maybe a little bonus room for an office or something. 2 car garage.
We've found a few lots that are going for 100,000 thousand..
So if we can build a house for 150,000 that brings us to a total of 250,000 to build the house (which would come out to 50,000 less than our budget)
Is it cheaper to build on just one level? or will it not make too much of a difference to have a second floor?

A basic rule of thumb is to multiply the square feet you want by $150.00 and that will give you a really good ballpark figure. The more bells and whistles the higher that square foot price goes. So you 1500 square foot house will cost about $225,000.00, that of course does not include the land. Good luck.

I’ve been going through old digital photographs, labeling and geotagging them so they will be easier to find in my collection. I have an appreciation for unique architecture in addition to my fascination with odd geography and I’ve noticed several photos that feature structures of unusual shape. The octagon ranks amongst them. Apparently this was a subliminal pattern because it became clearer only as I stepped back and examined the collection as a whole.

The Watertown structure adheres to design constructs of the Octagon House style as does this one in Tifflin, Ohio, built in 1852 for Dr. Jeremiah Good, a mathematics professor at adjacent Heidelberg College.

This movement was a brainchild of Orson Squire Fowler, a well-known author and lecturer who gained fame as a principal proponent of phrenology, a now largely discredited pseudoscience. He believed that shapes and bumps on peoples’ heads reflected proficiencies, personalities and mental capacities. He rubbed his own noggin and concluded that he would be a talented architect even though he’d never had any formal training. His publication, "The Octagon House: A Home For All," hit bookshelves in 1848.
