Are sump pumps mandatory for new home construction in Michigan? If so, when did this law go into effect?

I would like to introduce the new distinct custom homes at West Wing Estates. Located one block from secluded Lake Michigan Beach.

I am starting into my own business this spring. I do new home construction/ remodeling. Decks,windows,doors,siding,additions,pole barns, ect.
I have been using a name for some time now, but when I went to inc. it the name was in use. My initials are R.N. I live in Northern Michigan right on the bay of Lake Michigan. Please help. I have until March 1st!!

Building is such a field inhabited by scoundrels, I wouldn't trust a witty name, either. I'd want to hire a builder that used his own full name in the business name, because that's what you're really hiring when you hire a contractor - the guy behind the name. I figure someone that uses assumed business names in construction is probably mortgaged to the hilt, has filed bankruptcy before, or otherwise has a tarnished name, or he'd be proudly flying his own, instead. If you have a good reputation, be proud of your own good name.

I have been in business for over 10 years and in the industry for over 20, the last few years have been horrible! The most challenging job right now is finding leads for new work and finding business. I do new construction homes, garages, decks as well as remodeling kitchens, baths and basements. I can't relocate due to my children being so young. I really am hoping for suggestions or direction to generate business. Any help is greatly appreciated!

im in mi also trying to find a welding job. its hard out there and its a war to get a job. it seems like we have to fight to just be the next one in line so they can hire us. good luck. just apply to a ton of places and call them up and send them letters. apply to a ton of places every day like me.

New home construction in Michigan, USA. I have a Cutler Hammer meter/main combo mounted at the service entrance with 8 spaces/16 circuits max, and feed through lugs. This will supply the barn, garage, a.c. unit and outdoor outlets.

I will be installing my 'main' breaker box inside as a sub panel. Couple questions:

1) How many spaces can I have in the indoor panel? I'd like to go with 40 or 42 but since I have breakers outside already does this limit what's allowed in the sub?

2) Since I have the main breaker outside I just need a main lug panel inside, but it looks like it'd be cheaper to buy another main breaker 'value pack' rather than special order a 42 space main lug. Any reason I can't/shouldn't leave the 2nd main breaker in place?

I am doing all the work myself, under the guidance of my friend, a licensed electrician so please don't simply tell me to hire a professional. I am just exploring options before I go to him.

Yes you can go with a 40-42 space panel inside the house. Yes all you need is a main lug panel but you're right it would be cheaper for you to buy a valu-pac if you need the breakers it comes with. Yes leave the main breaker in place this can be used as a disconnecting means inside if you need it and if you take the breaker out then you have to buy a seperate lug kit for the feed wires.

P.S. Do not use the green screw (Sq D) or the little jumper (Culter Hammer) that bonds the neutral bar to the box in the sub panel. Make sure you use four wires between the meter/panel and the sub-panel 4/0 alum or 2/0 copper for the hots + neutral and a ground. Seperate all your grounds and neutrals in the sub-panel when terminating. Good Luck.

I am a residential builder and finish carpenter in Michigan. It is easier to find a spotted owl or the lochness monster then it is to see a new home under construction. With so many foreclosures here, building a new home would be completely stupid.......am willing to relocate to a better market.....thanks for your help.

Tons of condos going up in Seattle. Projects funded and underway. The union's pretty strong here so that will help with jobs/benefits/etc...
