is there a site which outlines insurance for motor home rentals I am planning a NZ vacation and the insurance for rental vehicles appears excessive

It is excessive for a reason, you won't find much really cheap that covers you properly.

In particular,is there any restriction on people over 70 or 80 years of age.

i'd say age 25 minimum with credit card - possibly age 30 for a motor home.
you'll have to check with the company - i'm sure the brochures say it in the fine print or your travel agent could check it out for you.

Huge fun. If you can, get a reasonable sized motorhome, for comfort. NZ is perfect for a road holiday, and two months is the perfect time to see it in. Go in at AKL & out CHC or vice-versa. If u are returning it to the same depot u collected it from, ask them to sharpen the rate heavily once they quote u, as u will have 2 ferry crossings to pay for, and the motor home company wont have to worry about relocating their machine. I would recommend February mArch as the best time to travel, schools are back, weathers great, water is warm. Im setting up a motorhome supply company these holidays, I may be able to help if you wish. pm me if u wish
