What will American cities look like in twenty years?

What will Salt Lake City, Boise, ID, Las Vegas, New York City, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Seattle and their metro areas look like in 20 years? What will happen to the suburbs, existing single-family home neighborhoods, existing businesses, existing streets, freeways, etc.?

Will they downsize like Detroit, Flint, and Youngstown? Or is downsizing restricted to those three cities? Will this downsizing even happen?

The people leaving Detroit, Flint, etc. are moving to other cities, causing them to grow even faster than just the population increase would account for. Cities haven't changed much in the past 50 years, no reason to expect any great change in the next 20.

This question is asked a couple of times a week. What idiotic course is it from?

To see the future, look to the past . . .

20 years ago, no great change.

40 years ago, no great change.

60 years ago, no great change.

80 years ago, suburbs and freeways had yet to come about.

100 years ago, no great change.

120 years ago, no great change.

There is no indication that there will be any drastic change in the foreseeable future. 20, 40 years from now there will still be suburbs, single family home neighborhoods, businesses, streets, freeways, etc..

Could this work as a novel? Would you read it?

Good idea for a novel?

It will be a dairy account about five Irish 21-year-olds on a once in a life-time road trip across America, from Las Vegas, to Lake Tahoe, to Napa Valley, and then San Francisco.

It will be written from the point of view of Katie Elson who just turned 21, a gawky, bookish girl and hardcore academic who is desperate to shed her nerdy school image and get a real taste of life. She has never experienced love or left her hometown as she’s always been gripped in the secure but safe fastenings of a textbook. After Deacon persuades her to come to America (out of pity or out of impulse, she cannot be sure) she breaks out of the library and her braces and goes on a whirlwind adventure to find herself.

The ‘leader’ is Deacon; After finally repairing an old Mustang convertible he organizes the road trip. At school he was a happy, honest jock and all-round good guy, and Katie always had a crush on him. However, he has a dark secret which makes him desperate to leave Ireland.

Then Orla, Deacon’s beautiful girlfriend. She has medium length blond hair and has a hippy-ish quality about her. She is warm, vivacious and sexy. She was adopted at three months old to an Irish couple and home-schooled.

Then Zero, who is kind of an indie-rocker and Deacon‘s best friend. He is cool, carefree and hedonistic, but has a good heart deep down. He plays acoustic guitar and used to be in a band with Orla who sang.

Lastly there is Patrick, the youngest of the group. He is kind of a nervous guy, slightly hyperactive, but with a big smile and a cheeky face and acts as the comedian of the group. He is good friends with Zero and Deacon.

As you can expect, the plot doesn’t follow a straight path, it’s like lots of little stories within a story as they move to new places. I suppose it’s a romance/adventure/coming-of-age story about youth, friendship, love and freedom.
Do you think you would want to read this book? And as it is based on real life… should I let the truth get in the way of a good story? Hah hah!

Thank you :]
I was only using American termanology so it would be easier for you guys to understand.
And Zero is his nickname, his real name is Ryan O'Farrell but he thinks that's boring.
You get Mustang convertibles all over the globe. Yes, it's rare, but what car would be more perfect for an American road trip?

Short answer! Yes it could work but never let the truth get in the way of a good story. Any politician will tell you that.
From your outline I can see that you write well so that should not be a problem for you.
If you are writing as an Irish woman you will need to develop the correct syntax, slang and phraseology.
The names of Deacon and Zero sound ever-so slightly American, not what you would expect of Irish boys. And all-round good Jock is definitely western USA. Also would an Irish boy have a Mustang? More likely a battered Ford Escort.
The way you tell it is from an American perspective an not an Irish one.
The character list is a little stereotyped; like a 1970s road movie where there has to be a guitar playing hippie to liven up the round-the-campfire scenes. You would need to be careful in the way you constructed the story that you did not fall into the read-it-all-before trap. Fresh and unique may just get you published.

Why Buy A New Home in Las Vegas, Nevada?

PRLog (Press Release) Jan 17, 2011 – Don't even think about visiting model homes by yourself and signing in -- at least not if you want to be represented later by a real estate agent.

It's just one of many things that makes buying a newly built home different -- and sometimes trickier -- than purchasing an existing one, even at a time when builders are slashing prices to reduce inventory.

Once you sign that list, many builders won't pay a commission to the agent, figuring they have already lured you in. So if you still want an agent to guide you in such things as negotiating price and extras, you would have to pay the commission yourself. If you don't bring an agent in the beginning, they won't honor that agent after that.

There's things that a Realtor is able to guide a buyer through that they would not know on their own.

To make the most of a new-home purchase, shoppers need to come armed with knowledge. That might...
