What are your thoughts on the Kansas City New Years Parties?

I'm stationed in Germany and coming home for Christmas / New Years. I'm going to KC and want to go to one of the big parties but don't know which one to choose. Any thoughts on the Black Party VI or Best You Ever Had NYE 2010? I'm 22 so looking for a younger crowd. Doesn't matter if the party is formal / semi formal but I would like to know what kind of dress for which parties.

Catholic retirement home in Kansas City?

What is KC like for a 90 y/o single guy?! My Dad's best friend is moving with his wife to KC and suggested my Dad move with him. I see there is a new retirement home sponsored by the Archdiocese called Santa Marta. Anyone havve any insights? What's traffic like in that area? Cost of Living? Senior services? Churches? Thanks!

I don't know the details about Santa Marta - at this point it is in the last stages of construction - due to open sometime this Fall.

The area it is located in is suburban.

The cost of living, traffic, etc. is pretty normal for the midwest. Its generally cheaper than the coasts. Climate runs the full range - we have all 4 seasons here.

New black Kansas City resident, where safe and harmonious to live?

I am a new resident of Kansas City who is black and hoping to live somewhere comfortable within the $700-900 a month range. My girlfriend and I would consider either an apartment or a home for rent. Despite equal housing laws, many of you are probably aware of discrimination by realtors against blacks and other stigmatized minorities according to the Department of Housing and Urban Development. There's also the undocumented discomfort produced by neighbors' prejudice. Can you please recommend a safe and harmonious place to live? We'd prefer a diverse part of town. Thank you!

As long as your east of Troost, South of 18th Street and North of 60th you will be ok! Thats a diverse area with really inexpensive rent.

Have a question about wrapping pipes under your home.....?

I just moved into a brand new home in Kansas City, Mo. Do the pipes here come insulated already or not? Didn't know if we need to let the water run at night while in the single digits?

I live in las Vegas and wrap the exterior pipe for the sprinkler. if you need to get under the house, or get a contractor do it fast you know this could be a very expensive repair job.

Who do you think will win on Thursday, Kasas City or New York Red Bulls?

Kansas City has won 3 - lost 2 - and tied 1 on home soil, and New York has won 1 - lost 4 - and tied 3.

Until Josh Wolff comes back to the Wizards on July 15th, The Red Bulls clearly have better skill, but I have a feeling it will end in a 1-1 draw

  • KC New Home Design Center: Area builders unite to offer new-home ...

Approximately 30 area home builders are pulling their resources together to form a regional retail location for new-home buyers.

Scheduled to open this spring, the KC New Home Design Center will become Kansas City’s one-stop shop for new-home construction.

“We have been working for months to develop a new business model to meet the needs of Kansas City residents,” said Chris Carley, president of KC New Home Design Center. “As the local housing market continues to rebound we saw an opportunity to offer new-home buyers a better alternative to the traditional new-home purchasing process.”

Added Carley, “According to the U.S. Census Bureau, new-home inventories are now at a 45-year low and we no longer have the surplus that was available just a few short years ago.

“Consumers will soon have to consider building if they want a new home. As you know, there are no national building companies here in Kansas City, with custom and semi-custom builders being the backbone on which the local housing industry is built.

“Unfortunately, because most builders have worked independently of each other, they have had limited purchasing power — something that’s about to change.”

The design center’s purchasing company is currently negotiating with several national suppliers to offer unprecedented savings on home-building materials.

The professional services group is working with local developers, area banks and real estate companies to offer consumers discounts on lot purchases, interest rates and real estate fees.

The center’s builders’ group includes the finest builders in Kansas City, Carley said, and they will cover a region that extends beyond the metropolitan area.

“What we’ve seen in the past is that homebuyers often spend weeks or even months trying to research their home purchase options,” Carley said. “And while many of them would like a new home, the thought of going through the building process is more than most people have time for.”

As a part of the design center, homebuyers can take advantage of a new process called the new-home buyers advantage. Carley described it as a filtering system that condenses the basic time needed to investigate home building, from weeks and months down to about an hour. Homebuyers can be pre-qualified for mortgages, research hundreds of home plans, search for build sites, view builder profiles and receive pricing with the help of trained counselors.

“They’ll even be able to view home designs in a three-dimensional model,” Carley said. “They can come to the design center or do most of this online from the comfort of their homes. Once we’ve helped them with their homework, we’ll match them with a preferred builder in their area to work on any details and help them get started.”

Last year, the company built three homes as test models under the new program, resulting in a 10 percent savings for each buyer on a new home, Carley said.

“We’re going to roll out the red carpet for Kansas City and make home building an experience to look forward to with savings to match,” he added. “We’ll be announcing the location of the KC New Home Design Center soon.”

In the meantime potential homebuyers can contact the design center at www.KCNHDC.com or via e-mail at info@kcnhdc.com.

KC New Home

Design Center

■ Contact: info@kcnhdc.com.

■ Web: www.kcnhdc.com.
