What's there to do in Jacksonville, Florida? Just moved here?

I just moved down here to Jacksonville, Florida, and I don't know anything yet about the city. I'm a 20 yr old single white male, and looking for where the fun is in this city and where to meet new people and where the beautiful women are at, please help me out... its pretty lonely just going to work and home :( thanks in advance

Hello. I grew up in/around Jacksonville.

This weekend is Shrimp Fest in Fernandina. It's a big party. Go for dinner @ Moonriver, then fireworks downtown,
then to Wicked Davey's. Get a hotel rather than drive back if you can (FYI: Try the Best Western behind Shoney's or in Yulee--between Jax & FB). If you do drive I recommend taking Heckscher Drive (aka Hwy A1A) to avoid traffic. http://www.tripadvisor.com/Tourism-g3421 8-Fernandina_Beach_Florida-Vacations.htm l

Speaking of Heckscher Drive, be sure to explore it during the day. It's fun to take the Mayport ferry & island hop. A lot of great places if you like hiking or kayaking or historic sites.

Check out this blog: http://www.urbanjacksonville.info/

Jackrabbits is great for live music. It's small. Bar in front, pool table & games in back. You'd feel comfortable there alone or not. http://www.jackrabbitsonline.com/

Go shopping in 5 Points during the day for music & odds & ins. Grab coffee at Fuel (although most of the beautiful women there are lesbians, there are always a few who aren't). http://www.fuelin5pts.com/

The Casbah is a lot of fun. Invite your co-workers to go enjoy a hookah & bellydancers on a Friday or Saturday nite when the restaurant gets packed. http://www.thecasbahcafe.com/

The best movie theaters are Tinseltown on the Southside (nicest, has special midnite movies during the summer) & the Pablo 9 at the Beaches (shows independent movies).

Although it opened after I left I hear very good things about The Pearl in Springfield. (I know Springfield has been gentrified, but I'd still be careful going to my car at closing time.) http://www.myspace.com/thepearlofspringf ield

Have fun!

Does this sound like a scam??? I live in Jacksonville florida and i came across this great car- why so cheap?

Hello,

If you are interested in my 2001 Lexus IS 300, I'm his first owner, it is in perfect condition, with no need for additional repairs, no scratches, dings, special marks whatsoever. It has 74,417 miles and the VIN # is :JTHBD182510014159. It has a clear title ready to be signed and notarized on your name.

I have the pictures hosted on the net and you can see them at : http://s465.photobucket.com/albums/rr15/ lexusISsport/?start=all

The car is located Voorhees, NJ and the shipping is my responsibility.

The price is $2,488 and there are no other costs regarding this transaction. I am selling the car because I am in the army and my unit will be deployed to Afghanistan in December. I will buy a new one when I'll back to home so this car need to go.

The transaction will be closed only through a 3rd party and this way we will both be protected. My time is limited due to my job in the army so I decided to use a service from ProPay. To begin the transaction I'll need your full name and shipping address, I will forward the details of our transaction to ProPay and then you will receive an invoice from them. The car will be shipped insured to your location with DAS and you will have 5 days for inspection.

Thank you,
Nicholas Parker

Yes, it's just a scam. You'll see - just tell the guy you only live 2 miles away from him, and you can come and pick the car up right away, in person. Then watch the result. He won't even pretend to let you see the car in real life, because he doesn't have the car.

Craigslist is covered with this stuff. It's rampant.

What do you think about Florida?

I just got home about a month ago from being an Exchange Student to Florida, it was only a two month deal, so I'm home now. I went to Key West, Orlando, Miami, Tampa, and Jacksonville. What are your opinions on Florida. I thought the people there could drive and few people there were under 50. It was hot, and I think more people are from Ohio there than actually Florida. I went to New York and California too.

I've never been. Closest I've ever gotten was Atlanta.
I think of hurricanes, 98% humidity, and aligators when I think of Florida.
And a couple of my contacts that live down there.

My Friends Is Missing....10 POINTS!?

Okay, so my friend and I usually text every single day (no lie, but we are only friends) and I went on a cruise last saturday (July 24th) and got back yesterday. Well, I couldn't text on the cruise b/c it was to expensive. Anyways the day before the cruise I was texting her like crazy (trying to talk to her about random stuff, b/c I wasn't going to be able to text her for 5 days while on the cruise) but she never responded to those. Her phone was off (b/c the green arrow was pointing away in my sent message box, and we both have verizon so if her phone was on it would have checked). I thought nothing of it. I got on the cruise and turned my phone off fo 5 days. Now, yesterday I texted her while riding home from Jacksonville, Florida (where the cruise was docked) and her phone was STILL OFF! And, the whole 5 days I was gone, she had not sent me a single message. She's the kind of person that texts me even when she knows I cannot respond. So, I thought she would have been texting me a lot while I was on the cruise. And, today I have sent a ton of texts and her phone is still off. I called her to and the little womans voice came on saying that her phone was off. I emailed her twice (threw her two different email addresses) And still no reply. I am very very very very worried. She always has her phone on, even when she's asleep it's on. She lives out in the middle of no where (I've never been to her house, so I don't know where it is) so I am scared something might have happened. I don't know what to do! I am just so worried. SO worried!
I have known her for about 3 years and she has NEVER gotten her phone takin up. NEVER. period. And, she's such a nice person she wouldn't do anything to get it taken up. And her parents are so nice that they wouldn't take it away for a week. Maybe a couple days, but not a week! And, she does not loose her charger and if she did it would not take her 8 days to either find it or buy a new one.
It's been 8 days....I think she might be missing....She lives in the middle of nowhere so something could easily happen and no one would know. HELP!

Try calling her parents (look them up by last name on yellow pages). try other websites to find her house on google earth (maybe to have your parents drive you there to see if shes ok) If you get worried talk to your parents and ask what you should do. if you dont know what else to do call the police to report a missing person. but try EVERYTHING you can before doing this. I hope you find out whats going on.

I asked some of her other friends and they also have not heard from her. And, she's not on vacation (b/c they are going to New York in october, so they decided not to go on any vacations this summer) I am so worried.
I remember the last time we were texting she said she was going to ride her horse. I wonder if something happened while she was riding.

Why don't you call her home phone number?
Or go to her house?
Or contact her parents?

  • TODAY'S DEALS: Ironshore Capital Purchases Florida Waterfront ...

Jacksonville, Fla.—An affiliate of Ironshore Capital LLC has purchased Water’s Edge, a seven-story oceanfront condominium located 123 First Street South in Jacksonville Beach. Ironshore has made interior and exterior improvements to the property and will open the condominium for sales on Saturday, Jan. 22. Jacksonville-based Carat Realty will handle sales.

“We acquired Water’s Edge because it is a quality building in a superior location on Jacksonville Beach. We were fortunate to be able to acquire the property when the capital markets were severely distressed,” says Ironshore Capital executive Jack Rodgers. “We are now in a position to offer homebuyers quality oceanfront condos at great prices from the low-$400,000s – as much as a 60 percent reduction from the original offering.”

Individual condos range from 2,000 to nearly 4,000 square feet. Each home has views of the Atlantic Ocean and is equipped with high-end features, including kitchens with Bosch Thermadore appliances, granite countertops, porcelain tile flooring and designer cabinetry. The property also has a gated entry, two elevators, garage parking, an oceanfront heated pool and direct beach access.
