Is it legal to have a camera in your living room with no sound and only takes picture of people walking fromoutside when your not home and they don't know that the camera is there, even though you can't miss it?

I live in New Jersey and I can't find any laws about this.

Would I be better off to by a small home in New Jersey then pay NYC (Manhattan and Brooklyn) rent and not get anything out of it? Homeownership is a goal for me anyway, especially if I can do it for about the same price as renting.

I suggest westchester or rockland county. its a 30 minute commute from the city, homes arent nearly as expensive as long island or new jersey, and the tax burden isnt as serious. trust me, long island is almost as expensive as manhattan, and new jersey is ridiculously corrupt, your taxes will go through the roof. an average home in a new york suburb will run you at least 300k, a starter home will cost maybe 250$

but my dude, aint you like, only 19? you cant afford to live here on your salary even if there were three of you. the only possible way you would be able to afford to live in NY as a college student is if you lived in a dorm, and dorms suck.

I am a stay at home mother and I would like to continue to keep it that way. But financially we are in a bit of a crunch and I was wondering if anyone knew of any legitimate jobs that I can do from home that I do not have to pay for. I need something that is reliable and that I will continue to receive payment from. I will be moving to a new home and it will not be possible without a steady second income. It does not have to be fulltime wages. Any New Jersey business' out there that can use an employee from home?

I know everybody says it's good to buy a home with the nice tax rebate and all, but is that true in New Jersey where the mortgage property taxes are kinda high? Or does that matter? How do I best get started in the process? It would be my 1st home & not sure what to do first.

Hello Reuben,

In New Jersey, given property taxes are what they are and can't be avoided, it is logical to buy a home at a time when it makes the home affordable in other ways.

So, if we look at the pluses:

- Home prices are much lower
- Many sellers are giving great incentives to buy
- The IRS is allowing up to an $8,000 tax incentive to 1st time home buyers
- Mortgage interest rates are lower than ever

Hold your breath until this set of buyer benefits crosses your path again. For anyone who truly "wants" to own their own home, how much more do you want someone to toss in your lap to get your ball rolling?

You should really look into buying if the difference between your rent and the new mortgage is very little.

I could get into tax benefits and renting versus buying, but there's no need. If you want to buy, can qualify, and have the down payment, go find yourself a home.

As for property taxes, it certainly is better to have to pay the higher taxes while both home prices and interest rates are lower.
