They were supposed to deliver my home on Wednesday (Aug 9), but on Tuesday, the hauler ran somebody else's house into a bridge in Richmond. He now cannot haul in VA.
The dealership is trying to find someone else to haul, w/o success.
Another hitch is the fact that it takes 10 days to get a permit in VA (each half of the house is 16' wide). I was told by DMV that the other guy's permit can be transferred to the new hauler. The dealership manager said she was told it couldn't be.
So I need two things: 1. someone to haul it; 2. an expedited permit process. HELP!!!!!
Since you are a Yahoo user, why not try the Yahoo Yellow Pages:

Look under mobile homes or mobile home movers. The mover should take care of the permit and include it in the price of the move.
Good luck with your search.

I am new to the area and was wondering hows the best way to find something to do in this city? i'm in Europe right now but i will be "home" this fall. wheres the best places to go and meet new people?
The City of Henderson Nevada is huge in land mass, including Green Valley Development. I would meet people at church, the library, bowling leagues, movies, and thru friends/family
I love my home situated between the mountains and the Puget Sound. However, my husband, who is near retirement, lost his job. He is interviewing in Henderson, NV. and thinks he will get an offer. We will likely rent but at the end of the probationary period, we will probably consider buying a home there too. Please help a non desert dweller to mentally adjust to life without forests, orcas, deer, and family.
Where should we look for a home to rent and then buy?
(Schools are not a concern)
I am a substitute teacher. Is there a need for subs in Henderson?
I hate the idea of dealing with scorpions. Is it an issue?
You have too many snakes. Is it an issue in the residential areas, or just outside of town?
I hate heat. How do locals survive it? I was in Vegas once when it was 114 degrees. I could not leave the room. I was also there once when it snowed, and that too is not a joy.
I am open to a new adventure, but need to arrive prepared for a very different life, and a life without my children and grandchildren. Help please.
You will never get use to the difference. I lived in Colorado before I moved to Vegas.. It's so different that you don't really get use to it, you just have to accept that it's different. The biggest thing you'll notice is lack of trees/green. I've been here 10 years and I still hate not seeing trees.
Adjusting to life without your family can be tough, especially if you've never been without them. It's tougher for the younger crowd here to find friends, just because of the Vegas lifestyle and the kinds of people it attracts, but if you're closer to retirement age it should be easier to get a good base of friends. All you can do is surround yourself with good people to fill-in for your family. There's a good retirement and pre-retirement base of people here, so that should help some.
The zip codes you want to buy/rent in are 89052 (Seven Hills), 89044 (Madiera Canyon), 89012 (MacDonald Ranch/Green Valley), 89074 (Green Valley).. All of those are in newer Henderson. You don't want to live in 89014 & 89015 (older Henderson). 89123 & 89183 (Silverado Ranch) are in Las Vegas, adjacent to 89052 & 89074, it's also a good area to live in. It will be cheaper than living in newer Henderson. Southern Highlands (89141) is a 15-20 minute drive to Henderson and is a nice area. I live here and drive into Henderson for work.
Generally, the nicest areas are on the edges of town. Be forewarned about living too far back into 89052 & 89044 though.. There's only 1 main road (Eastern) that goes back there, so traffic can be pretty bad at times.
I have no real knowledge about the sub situation, but we do have a huge budget short-fall and education is one of the things on the chopping block. But maybe that's a good thing for subs? Less full-time teacher = more subs??
Animals and insects are almost a zero issue. Been here 10 years and have never seen a scorpion or snake at my house and I live right up against a mountain with no development behind my house. There's no mosquitoes. One of the great things about living here is that there's almost no bugs. I've seen maybe 5 black widows in my yard and a coyote running by a few times, that's about it.
You do get use to the heat to some degree, but you'll learn to go out once the sun goes down. Most stores are certainly NOT open 24/7, but they do stay open longer than in other cities. Restaurants are open longer too. Wal-Mart and grocery stores are pretty much the only 24/7 stores. It only snows about once a year and it usually doesn't stick, so thats not really an issue.
Don't be fooled, it's going to be very different. You just have to accept the desert southwest for what it is and what it isn't. I hope the move goes well for you two.
I am a married stay at home mom,who has 3 kids,14,7,and 2.I don't get out very much because I recently laid off,and don't work right now. And,even though I love my kids it is starting to get to me staying at home all of the time, not to mention lonely, and it is getting harder to find activites that they are not getting tired of doing. They do enjoy the park, and Chuckie Cheese we even take them places like Frankies, and they still act bored. So now I am hoping to start a no cost play group, just where women meet and do something fun for their kids every once, and a while, and it will also allow me to get out,and meet new people, and friends. If you are in the Raleigh,Durham, and especially Henderson areas please feel free to give me input, and suggestions are welcome..Thanx
Thank You I have been looking for something like that.I will take a look wish me luck....
There's actually sites just for this that's free to use (unless you start your own group). You can do a search for your area and it will list and categorize everything you want to do. You can also do a search for stay at home moms. meetup.com
Im not trying to spam you or anything, that's just what I recommend.

The towel rack you're looking for is listed under "Plants and Accessories" rather than with the rest of the storage. Weird, I know. It took me a while to find it.

A New Home in Henderson : Living Las Vegas
Lots of people celebrate moving into a new home with a house-warming party, but few are like the one I attended in Henderson on Tuesday. For starters, the mayor was there, along with news crews for several television stations and newspapers. What made the party in Henderson so special? It’s a story of community, volunteerism, and stimulus money. Yes, there is concrete evidence that stimulus money is actually helping people and neighborhoods. The freshly painted house I visited on Tuesday is a prime example.
Not long ago, the house just off Burkolder Boulevard was run-down and vacant, another sad victim of the recession and the foreclosure crisis. It might well have stayed that way if HopeLink, a nonprofit based in Henderson, hadn’t received a federal grant to purchase such properties and rehabilitate them to provide housing for low-income senior citizens. The house I visited is one of three that HopeLink purchased, and the first to be ready for occupancy. Completely renovated inside and out, the house is a comfortable three-bedroom with a spacious backyard. Not only is it home to its three residents as long as they wish to live there, it’s also a beacon of optimism in its neighborhood.
