I don't know but this sounds like a great idea.
www.FuneralGurus.com Bronx Funeral Home Director Francine Ross Roden talks about making families more comfortable during arrangements. Interview ...
Yes, every state except Colorado requires a license to practice funeral directing and/or embalming, but to simply work there as an attendant, no license is needed.
went to see my grandmother because she is dying. I slept in the hospital and stood by her. She is going to die. Should I have blown work off or do you think I am right to go home and then go back for the funeral? My parents and aunts and uncles are there. I also don't want to waste all my vacation time since my grandpa is sick too.
I don't think you're doing anything wrong. You were there with your grandmother. You said with her in the hospital, and I'm assuming you said your goodbyes.
I really don't think Grandma would want you to grind your life to a halt just for her. Besides, it sounds to me like she's got other family around her.
My condolences, and good luck.

I'm a Yankee Fan but I'm sorry For them not to show up to Bob Sheppard's Funeral including Derek Jeter who uses his voice in player introductions is wrong. Here is the article->
Yanks miss Sheppard funeral
NEW YORK -- The Yankees weren't at Bob Sheppard's funeral, and according to team captain Derek Jeter some didn't even know when the event was taking place.
"To be quite honest with you, I didn't even know his funeral was yesterday,'' Jeter said on Friday. "Having said that, I don't necessarily think you have to go to a funeral to honor someone. I think a lot of players have honored him. It's the reason why I've recorded his voice throughout the years, and I'll continue to honor him every time I go to the plate for the rest of my career. But I was not aware of it and I don't know how many of the players were aware of it.''
Earlier Friday, reports that a bus carrying Yankees players to the funeral got stuck in traffic due to a fatal accident on a Long Island highway were deemed false, according to a team spokesman
A column in Friday's Daily News took current and former players to task for not making an appearance at the funeral of the Yankees' legendary public address announcer. Jeter, who has a recording of Sheppard introducing him at the plate, was the most conspicuous no-show. According to a team source, Jeter flew home to see his family in Tampa after the All-Star Game in Anaheim on Tuesday night.
"I don't know why he didn't fly back to New York to attend the funeral," the source had said.
"We didn't organize any bus for the players," Yankee publicist Jason Zillo told ESPNNewYork.com. "I don't know about any bus."
Asked if it would have been his responsibility to arrange for team transportation, Zillo said, "I would think so."
NY1 cited police as reporting a bus carrying Yankees players was delayed in a traffic jam caused by an auto accident on the Meadowbrook Parkway in which three people were killed. Other Yankees sources denied any knowledge of the report and confirmed to ESPNNewYork.com that there was no organized travel plan for players to attend the funeral.
"Maybe the players got stuck in traffic in their cars, and then got on a bus to try and make it," said a source, who acknowledged, "That doesn't seem very believable."
Frank Bandiero, a spokesman for the New York State Police, agreed. "I happened to pass the accident site," he told ESPNNewYork.com. "I saw the procession pass by without any problems. There was no traffic whatsoever."
The only prominent Yankees employee to attend the service was GM Brian Cashman, who delivered a eulogy
My problem is "not knowing when the funeral is". It's really not that hard to ask around and Cashman knew.
Article prior to his funeral:
Funeral arrangements for Bob Sheppard
WHEN: Thursday, July 15 beginning at 10:15 a.m.
WHERE: St. Christopher's Roman Catholic Church
11 Gale Avenue
Baldwin, NY, 11510
On Thursday at 10:15 a.m., a Liturgy of Remembrance will be celebrated for Bob Sheppard. Members of his family, the Sisters of St. Joseph, The New York Yankees and The New York Giants will remember Mr. Sheppard's life.
At 10:45 a.m., a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Mr. Sheppard. Father Steven Camp, pastor, St. Christopher's Parish, Baldwin, will be the principal celebrant and homilist.
In the end, with Jeter's request to have Bob Sheppard's voice announce his at bats since he left the organization in 2007, shows a respect and honor of the man. It would have been better if he was there, the family would have appreciated it. I truly believe the statements after his death about respect for Bob and his memory by the players who knew him, that those players should have made an effort to know when it was and attend.
It's not just not attending, but it's the lack of effort to find out anything about it. If they wanted to go they would have found out. The simple answer is they didn't want to go.
Hard week for the Yankees though, I'm sure they are sad and Derek's statements about honoring and respecting Shepperd are still 100% true.

Funeral Homes Now Also Wedding Venues -- Daily Intel
It's hard out there for everyone right now — and funeral homes aren't exempt from the financial crisis. That's why some of them are finding dual purposes as event centers and banquet halls. Holding a wedding at a funeral parlor is a great way to save a few bucks — if you can stomach the thought of getting married down the hall from a bunch of caskets — and you don't mind the requisite Hugh Grant movie jokes.
And people like Carla Fletcher are aiming to change the image of the funeral home–cum–events center. Carla is the special-events coordinator at Indianapolis, Indiana's Community Life Center, which does funerals and weddings. "The place wasn't being utilized because people had tunnel vision. They thought since it was a funeral home, they (couldn't) sell it. But I don't see a funeral home; I see an events center," she said.
An increasing number of funeral-home directors are opening community centers, because traditional wedding facilities are disappearing. "A lot of [wedding facilities] are shutting down because of the economy, while we (funeral homes) aren't going anywhere," said James Olson of National Funeral Directors Association. "In our community, two banquet halls closed because of the economy."
