i like a lot of designs and styles and i don't know from were to start. what is the first step!
We started with several of the books of house plans that you can get at any newstand. We looked them over and selected the floor plans we liked best and then discussed their pros and cons until we got close to what we wanted.
We then bought a set of the plans we liked best and started modifying them to suit what we wanted. We made some rooms larger, moved the laundry room, added a pantry, changed some ceiling heights, etc until we were happy with the result.
We also changed the outside look of the house somewhat to eliminate as much wood as possible so there wouldn't be a lot of outside painting.
My wife has a hard time seeing things in three dimensions so I also bought a 3-D architect design program so she could see the rooms in three dimensions and arrange her furniture the way she wanted. This helped with the placement of door, windows, closets etc.

I have to write a paper in English and basically make a presentation for a panel of judges. I picked that I will create a new home design for a sub division for my "job" and I need to know how to go about creating this?
I would first draw a floor plan for your new home design...Be sure to include some neat features that you would want to include in your home.....then, in your paper, describe the floor plan with all of these neat features. Pretend you are talking to a potential buyer and are trying to sell them this house. The more that you can describe about these neat features, the better your paper will be!!!!
Good morning!
i'm moving into a nice new apartment and I have two baby girls coming ahead.
I want something eco- friendly like this Bybo Design changing table:
http://decorbox.bg/blog/en/wp-content/up loads/2009/11/ergonomic-baby-changing-ta bles-by-bybo-011.jpg
For the babies room they'll share, I want some pastel colors, peach, light pink, cream...
I want a room with a baroque-gone-modern type style and I want that in the living room and a baroque bathtub like this in the bathroom:
http://www.dekio.fr/var/deco/storage/cus tom/blogs/1/2/28.jpg
For the kitchen, I want colors like taupe and light blue with a hint of white and cream.
For the living room I would like a prune purple with green and a long modern-baroque table with see through chairs (I saw some somewhere)
Can you help me out with ideas, pics, websites...?
Thanks a bunch everyone!
I also love the Parisian apartment style with tall ceilings, mouldings....
Can you paint the apartment, or even change out the tub for that matter, probably not. Stick with window and floor treatments for the color.
we are beginning to design our new home an are overwhelmed by the upgrades that are available.. they all seem necessary, but which one's should we absolutely have because it will become a hassle and more expensive in the future...
These upgrades are things like wood flooring, ceramic flooring in the kitchen and bath, french doors, pot lights, staircase choice of wood..etc.
I'm having a hard time deciding....
thanks in advance :)
Anything flooring wise would not be a must. That can all be changed later. It's only more expensive because you will pay for something to go down and then taken up again. But you may do that anyway when there are design changes.
The thing you want to do is wire for a computer system (LAN) and have your electrician run a couple of conduits from the basement by your electrical panel up to the attic so any future wires can be run. This will probably cost you less than $50 but save you hundreds if not thousands later.
If you live in a cold climate and you are having tile installed, I would have floor heat installed.
I would also pre wire for ceiling fans. Even if you don't want them. It is cheap enough to put a regular light or even a cap over it for the time being.
Recessed lights are great and very modern. If you have an area that the ceiling can not be accessed easily, install them now. Otherwise just make sure your electrician preps for it.
Everyone has surround sound now. There's nothing worse than the wires run around the room later. It is really cheap to run the speaker wires now and blank them off or not install the speakers yet.
If you plan on finishing the basement in the future, make sure the floor has the proper drain lines put in before the cement is poured.
There are other great things you can do to prep for the future. But they are not real "MUST HAVE" items.
