My boyfriend and I just purchased a new townhouse and are looking for neat but inexpensive ideas to decorate. Anybody know where we can find some do-it-yourself ideas that will look good but not cheap-looking?
For each room, pick something that the rest of the room will revolve around.
For instance, if you have a green couch, then pick everything else in that room to go with the couch - not necessarily matching it, but going with it. That way the room will look more pulled together and professionally finished.
Don't mistake clutter and a lot of junk laying around for a classy look. Make your rooms warm and inviting, but not early junk yard.
To accessorize a living room, keep vases and flower arrangements low between conversations spaces, utilize old books, trays and antiques to add ...

Any and all ideas welcome! Thanks, everyone!
Beautiful trim work..Looks like whoever painted loved color..
In your Kitchen I think staying with a dusty blue green would be beautiful..or even a very sagey green..and try those sueded paints..they are going to look soft and muted in there..and you could definitely use some richness with the white trim and light maple cabinets..
In your Dining room try something a little different maybe a barn red or burgundy..or this finish called venetian plaster..it looks so rich and even though it can be tedious it has a look of soft stone when done..(look it up on the web..)
in you other rooms i would tone it down with softer golds or greens..or even taupe looks very good with white..
they are on the right track with the colors they just went a little to bright with the tones ..with white you need to balance it out..

My husband and I bought our first house, It is finally done being built and we are ready to move in to it. I need some suggestions though. Currently the house is a tannetural color through out with crisp white moldings and doors. I was thinking of painting maybe 1 wall in my kitchen a deep brownish red color, and 1 wall in my living room where the fireplace a darker brown...here are the pics, i know the front yard needs landscaped, I havent had time to do it yet they just finished building the house this week.

ooops its supposed to be tan neutral color
would it be too much to paint my whole kitchen the red ?
i LOVE your new house, its so cute. Congrats!! As for the colors I would paint the kitchen the red you want, it would pop nice against the bright crisp white trim and do the living room in a brownish tan color that will look great against the red... love love love your color choices!!!

I like to decorate the outside of my house every year for Halloween and I'm looking for some new ideas. Our house has a lot of windows and a large front yard.
As many pumpkins, hay bales & corn shocks as you can possibly get there, first thing, for total overall atmosphere. (not to mention, you can leave those up till Thanksgiving) Since you have a lot of windows, get some black gauzy fabric & shred the ends of it, hang that up as your curtains. Soap your windows, put spiders in them. Drape Spiderweb everywhere! Any of the lights they sell in the stores, especially if you can find the Halloween icicle lights (orange or a mixture of orange, purple & green) are great on the front of the house. Get a fog machine for Halloween night - your trick-or-treaters will love that. A cd of spooky music & sounds is wonderful too. If you can spend a little - get a skeleton or two to throw around the place - hang one in the front yard from a tree or the porch. Get separate spotlights in orange or green to creat eerie atmosphere. Just get into it & have fun -stores will soon have their Halloween goodies out, so start strolling the aisles & get ideas. Decide on a theme, even. Have a great time & enjoy!! p.s. - the book I listed below might give you even more ideas; I haven't read it yet but I have read other things by this author.

Easy Home Decorating Ideas for a Limited Budget | Live for Less ...
Do you have big dreams but only a small home decorating budget? Are you planning a major change or just wanting to update or freshen the look of a room with simple, inexpensive home décor? These are questions you might want to start with to focus on your intention for redecorating a room. Here are home decorating ideas from the experts to get you started on that home decorating project that you have been thinking about for some time.
If you are buying a major piece of furniture, you need to do your homework by researching and comparing quality and price. Sit on a couch and perhaps stretch out on it before buying it to make sure it’s right for you.
Spend your money where you can see it. Don’t spend $75 on a small vase when that $75 could be used for a beautiful mirror on an accent wall or even a cluster of mirrors that will offer a more dramatic look.
Look at the space you are redecorating with a fresh approach. Consider the basic pieces and rearrange the space; adding one new piece of furniture and changing accessories really changes the look of a room. Remember to keep in mind the function and style of the room.
