Which new home builders have a reputation of building quality homes that will last the longest in general? K. Hovnanian, Pulte, etc. What is your opinion?
You will never find high quality in track homes. Brookstone homes are pretty good though,I have bought one and I was happy. However, I upgraded everything and was there to check it every step of the way. People who did not upgrade in the neighborhood ended up with lessor quality homes, built by the cheap immigrant labor. Not a single immigrant worked on my specific house, and it may be because I stopped by there almost every day and checked everything, even before they poured my foundation. I made them tie all of the steel they laid first, I know full well they would not of if I had not.
Soo...if you buy a track home pop in a lot to make sure they are doing everything right, not trimming corners, no matter who you buy from.
Also, avoid KB homes, they are the worst ones you can get in CA, I would never buy one and check building records on purchases just to make sure I never, ever, ever end up with one in my inventory.
Whether the project is kitchen, bathroom, exterior painting, room addition, interior design, renovation, building a new home or simply remodeling ...
I want to work with home developers or home builders, how or where do I get started??Im already licensed.
Congratulations on receiving your painting contractors license. In addition to your contractors license, developers will require that you carry liability insurance and that you are also bonded.
Once you have these in place, you will want to prepare a letter of introduction and a portfolio of your work to present to the developers.
Best of Luck
Particularly Fresno, CA or the San Joaquin Valley. We're thinking of building a new home on our lot.
Thanks to everyone!

I'm looking to buy a new home in Southern California -- Palm Desert/La Quinta or San Diego. There are several builders competing for my business. How can I find out about their reputations?
Go to the actual developments and see the ones under construction .
If you are unfamiliar with building methods ,
Have a home inspector go with you and give you a lesson .

before we were able to sign title, we got word from the sales office that the builder is going to file bankruptcy. We still want the home and I want to know what, if any, legal right we have to it? They are asking that we sign a document to recieve our deposit back. I am afraid that if we sign it, we will have no recourse at that point. Any advice would be appreciated.
The house is built. it's actually one of the model homes.
You can't get blood from a stone. He's not going to build it if he's bankrupt. If it already exists I can't imagine them not selling it to you.
