Does anyone have information regarding grants for disabled persons building a new home in Calgary?

I think the CMHC(Canada Housing and Mortgage Corperation) has some. I know they have them for renos so it only makes sense they would have some for new builds.

What is the $ to replace a wood foundation with concrete for a 1550 sqf home in Calgary, AB Canada?

this is a 2 storey home that is on an existing pressed wood foundation built in 1995. We are trying to determine the costs if we need to lift the home and have a new concrete foundation built. The basement is developed with existing plumbing. This is a rural location.

How can I drive a new car home without insurance or registration?

I'm going to be buying a vehicle from a private owner, not a dealership, and I'm curious as to how I'm supposed to get the car home when I won't have the insurance or the registration completed yet. This is my first vehicle, so if this question seems a little stupid, I apologize. =P

Also, if I did happen to purchase from a dealership instead, are there ways around it?

Oh, and I live in Calgary, AB, if that matters.

If this is your first vehicle, you have no existing policy, therefore there is no newly-purchased vehicle clause. If you drive it home without insurance, and it is vandalized, stolen, or wrecked in an at-fault accident, it is gone, toast, you have flushed your money down the drain. You canot drive the car out of the driveway without it. If the previous owner has not cancelled his plates and insurance, ask if you can drive home on his, and date the bill of sale and TOD for the next day. If he has already cancelled, or transferred his coverages, you have to take the bill of sale and the TOD to get your registration and insurance before you take it home. Dem's da law!

Ignore the posters who say you can register later. In Canada, you can't, you have to have registration before you drive it. Temporary registration is available by means of a transit permit, which allows you to drive the vehicle only from one location to another

PS, if you don't know what I mean by TOD, it is the Transfer of Ownership document, the only paper that tells you the sell on the bill of sale is the legal owner, they only person who can actually sell you the car. You can register it without the TOD, but, if the name on the bill of sale then doesn't match the name that comes up in the computer at the registrations office, the registration cannot be completed, and you will not be issued plates.

Looking to move furniture from Calgary to New Brunswick.?

I only have a bedroom set and about 6 boxes. I can't get rid of the furniture and need to get it across the country. Can you ship by train from here? I can't find any information to contact anyone to get details (unless I'm looking to ship a car). HELP!! I need to be home before Christmas!

You would be far better off to get rid of the furniture and if you can some of the items in the boxes. It is going to cost you more money then the stuff is probably worth in the long run. The train will cost you a small fortune, and I am not even sure if they will ship it.

You can try calling a moving company to ask how much they would charge, but be prepared for it to be a lot, I wanted to send my son's stuff out to him in Ontario from Saskatchewan and I was quoted $3000 for just a small packing crate/shipping pod type thing full of stuff. Was about 12 - 4 cube boxes 3 - 5 cube and 10 or 12 - 3 cubes.

If you can sell it try Kijiji.

  • New Housing Price Index (NHPI): November 2010 | Calgary Real ...

In response to your enquiry, a time base conversion is a simple arithmetic transformation of the levels of a price index series without altering the monthly price changes. A change in the time base causes only the index levels to change. The selection of a time base closer to current time has the effect of scaling the index levels downwards. Shifting the time base further in the past, or leaving the time base unchanged for a long period has the effect of scaling the index levels in an upward direction.

Time bases are changed for several reasons. Firstly, by bringing the time base closer to current time index levels and changes are made more relevant to recent price experience. People find it difficult to relate to index levels which are very high and which, more likely, carry a time base in the distant past. Secondly, time bases are changed, to establish a reference date that is more suited to a particular application. For instance, if a user wanted to see quickly how prices for a commodity have grown from a certain year, then the relevant index could have its time base shifted to that year.
