Friends of ours are building a new home. They love the look of traditional hardwood, over the laminate versions, but would like something with more durability and less maintenance. We've heard that bamboo dents easily. Can anyone offer other suggestions? Also looking for different options in bathroom flooring. Thanks!
We have always had pre-finished hardwoods and they are very durable. Pre-finished floors have many coats of polyurethane that were allowed proper drying time giving them a tough finish. I have never found hardwoods to be high maintenance. Quite the contrary. I love them for their ease of clean up. Bathrooms need to be either stone or ceramic. With the moisture in baths, floors have to be able to handle the humidity and stones or ceramics are easy to clean. I much prefer stones as they are not slippery. Travertines and similar choices are very nice options anywhere in a home.

I'm thinking of putting in an offer for a new build home tomorrow, but I don't know how the pricing works when you are buying from the developer (George Wimpey in this instance). Is there any room for negotiation, or is the price you see the price you pay?

My house used to be one 4 bedroom terraced house and 4 years ago it was converted/seperated into 2, 2 bedroom terraced house's. Does this mean that my house classed as a new home? I am having difficulty selling my home, as the buyers solicitor is asking for new homes warranty certificate.
A new build is where a property is being purchased for the first time from the Builder or Developer. Your house is not a 'new build', It is newly refurbished at best but if the work was done 4 years ago, you will be stretching even that definition. Sorry! :-(

The Halifax Quality of Life survey 2010, published recently, was good news for the East of England, with 11 entries from the region in the national Top 50. The survey tracks living standards in 408 local authorities of Great Britain using fifteen key indicators, including education, health and the housing market. The results could be great news for house hunters looking for a new-build home in Cambridgeshire, Es Sex , Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Suffolk. We look at properties on ten developments in some of the best areas highlighted by the survey in the East of England region.
Fifth overall in the survey comes South Cambridgeshire, the highest-ranking East of England authority. Residents at Bovis Homes' Serpentine Walk in Upper Cambourne, between Cambridge and St Neots, are nestled comfortably within that district. With three-bedroom townhouses priced at £225,000 and five-bedroom detached houses starting at £349,950, the emphasis here is on family buyers.
