Does anyone have a "Better Homes and Gardens New Cook Book" with the recipe Fluffy White Icing in it?

I have lost the page with my favourite recipe in it. It is in an older edition of the red checkered Better Homes and Gardens cook book. The recipe is called either Fluffy White Frosting or Fluffy White Icing. Does anyone have it?

Fluffy white frosting:

Combine 1 cup granulated sugar , 1/3 cup water , 1/4 teaspoon of cream of tartar , and a dash of salt in saucepan. Bring to a boiling stirring till sugar dissolves. Very slowly add sugar syrup to 2 unbeaten egg whites in mixing bowl , beating constantly with electric mixer till stiff peaks form, about 7 minutes. Beat in 1 teaspoon vanilla. Frosts tops and sides of 2 8-or9- inch pans. /or one tube cake.

Better Homes and Gardens New Cook Book, 15th edition

Take a first glance at the all-new 15th edition of Better Homes and Gardens New Cook Book.

Of the Big 3 general cookbooks, which one is your favorite and why?

I was at the book store looking for general purpose cookbooks. I found the following 3, which seem to comprise the big 3 of all-in-one general purpose cookbooks.

Betty Crocker Cookbook: Everything You Need to Know to Cook Today, Tenth Edition

Better Homes and Gardens New Cook Book

Joy of Cooking: 75th Anniversary Edition

Do you have a favorite and if so, why?

I like BH & G because it has pictures (and I'm a picture kind of guy) and it lays flat or you can even take the page out of the book.

On the other hand, Joy of Cooking is like the Bible of cooking. It is very thorough and covers everything that you could ever even think up.

I have all three and also over 150 other cookbooks. I use the BH & G for things like cookies. My wife is a much less experienced cook, and this is her favorite. I get out the Joy of Coking when I need accurate reference info like doneness temperatures, how to roast a goose, how to filet a fish, etc.

If you're an inexperienced cook, go with the BH & G. If you're an experienced cook, go with the Joy of Cooking.

Why are my Snickerdoodle cookies making my microwave oven arc?

The other day I made a batch of Snickerdoodle cookies from the 1981 edition of the Better Homes and Gardens New Cook Book. They were getting a bit stale so my husband tryed to "refresh" a few by mircowaving them. The cookies went into the "nukker" and started to arc. We took the cookies out and restarted the "nukker", this time with now arcs. Put the cookies back in and arc-central. WHY?!?!?!?!?!?!

3 3/4 c. flour
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp cream of tartar
1 c ove butter
2 c sugar
2 eggs
1/4 c milk
1 tsp vanilla

rolled in
3 tbsp sugar
1 tsp ground cinnamon
This sometimes happens to my butter. i use "Land 'o' Lakes" which has that new stay fresh wrapper. I'm wondering if they are using silver or silver nitrates in the packaging. I know that silver arcs in a microwave, having tested silver trimed dishes.

sometimes the cinnamon will cause the microwave to arch

suggestions on a good cookbook??

so i need a good book nothing real complicated but with good recipes ...so i saw Better Homes and Gardens New Cook Book: Celebrating the Promise it looks nice but i want to know other peoples opinions and i also keep hearing that betty crocker is good and The America's Test Kitchen Family Cookbook. I just need some help making a decision THanks!!!!

My favorite is Betty Crocker. I remember learning from my moms back in the day. I loved hers so much I got one from Ebay that was printed in the late 70's. I just think food tasted so much better then when they used more real ingredients and weren't worried about cutting things out.

I also have a Rachel Ray 30 minute meal book. Its okay but there aren't a lot of pictures. I need pics so I can see what the end result is supposed to look like.

**My moms got ruined in a move so I ended up buying her another on Ebay too.

Can I order replacement pages for my cookbook? How do I do so?

I have a Better Homes and Gardens Special Edition Pink Plaid: For Breast Cancer Awareness The complete 12th edition "New Cook Book" from 08/2005.

I don't think so. I have tried in the past. What I normally do is re-order the same version of the cookbook. Not sure if they stock that BCA 12th edition, but in the past, I have re-ordered the 1972 version (i wanted the same cookbook that my mom gave me) and the newer editions sometimes change the recipes to be healthier. For me, I know how to cook healthy. I just want original recipes from the version I had requested.

Is this your version?
