Where can I find used office furniture?

I am looking for just 1 item. A wooden stationary cupboard to tidy up my little home study.I need somewhere in Gloucestershire really. Any ideas?

Check your local newspaper to see when there are any office furniture sales coming up. An auction is the cheapest way to buy one. My friend recently bought a wooden 5 draw desk and a 4`6" high 4 draw metal filing cabinet at an auction for £.4.50+VAT.

Super glue removal from furniture?

I have accidentaly spilled some standard super glue from walmart or gas station (small disposable tube) onto my brand new solid cherry wooden home office desk. I need to know how to remove this without damaging the bueatiful stained wood finish. Some spots appear to be soaked in, and others are raised, dried glue. Any suggestions....... PLEASE HELP!

For the spots that have soaked in there really is no 'fix' per say other than to sand it down and re-finish it. For the raised spots you may be able to scrape it off with a razor blade, understand though the finish has been compromised by the compounds the glue is made from (cyano-acrylics). This stuff raises cain with stains, paints and other adhesives as well as destroy plastics (etching and 'clouding'). So I guess what I'm saying is: Unfortunately it is now time to refinish the desk top. Bonifide furniture re-finishers will tell you the same thing.

I need home decor advice. Any ideas?

I've just moved into a new rented apartment and like it very much. Before we moved in, the landlord has spent a lot of money renovated the dining room and spent a lot of time on the wooden paneling. This paneling is not to my taste at all, in the rest of the house it is painted white which looks light and airy, but in this room it is a dark teak color. I want to make this room an office so I can work at home and want to soon buy some furniture. However, I am at a loss at how to decorate this room. Should I go for an Old-English style drawing room look complete with leather chesterfield sofa or would it look to good to contrast the old paneling with contemporary furniture which is more to my taste. I'm not an interior designer so don't have the vision. What do you reckon?

You're smart to appreciate your landlords hard work.
I know your situation, I lived in apartment with dark panaling, but they let me paint it.
Don't worry about matching your furniture to it.
It's there to complement the apartment, thats it.
It should also complement your furniture, not your furniture complement the wall.
You say you like contemporary furniture, and you want to brighten up the place. Buy furniture to do that. You won't get any work done in an office you're not comfortable in.
Get furniture you like. Sounds like you have pretty good taste, you'll make it work.

How does this story sound so far?

Jonathon once told me it’s a dog eat dog world out there. At first I didn’t understand what he meant. I don’t think he fully understood it either. But now I do. We both do. But at this point in my story I didn’t know Jonathon; he was just another stranger in the street. He is in my story though, but not yet.
For now it is just me. No Jonathon, no Marie, no anyone. Just me, telling my story. And all stories must have a beginning. Mine is the day I was kicked out of my lodgings. That seems to be the reason why everything happened. So yes, I’ll start there.
I worked for a Mister Craig O’Hareling, a pawn broker in the East area of London. It wasn’t a big shop; in fact it was closer to the size of a broom cupboard than a shop. But we still managed to make enough money to keep it going. I didn’t get paid money for my job. Mister O’Hareling didn’t make enough for that. Instead, he offered me lodgings in his attic in return for my work. I didn’t particularly like the job but times were hard and I accepted. I grew good at my job and Mister O’Hareling was pleased with me. Unfortunately, there was an incident.
A young lady who I’d never seen before came into the shop. She kept talking to me and asking whether I’d like to come over to her house. I politely said that I was not interested and she left angrily. The next day she came in demanding to speak with the owner and I let showed her through. She came out of the office after about an hour and walked straight out the shop. Mister O’Hareling then called me into his office and said he needed a word with me. It seems that the young lady had accused me of molesting her. I protested my innocence and thought that Mister O’Hareling would perhaps believe me. But I was wrong, Mister O’Hareling sent me out of his shop and home without a second’s thought.
So there I was, homeless and hungry. Nowhere to go, I thought to myself. But then I remembered my brother George. He had connections running all over London and he would surely be able to get me a job elsewhere. So off I trudged through the darkened streets to George’s house. I say house, but the word mansion would be more suitable. Where I had failed at whatever I chose, George had succeeded with the utmost ease. It was just the sort of man he was; a git.
When I arrived at his “house”, the door was opened for me by Jeremy the butler. He led me into the hall and asked me politely to wait while he fetched my brother. It was large with yellow walls and multitudes of paintings on the walls, including a portrait of George in a black suit. I stood there for five minutes staring at the many paintings and decorations before my brother entered, a huge smile on his face.
“Brother!” he cried. “What brings you here?” He came up to me and clasped my hand in a firm handshake.
“Well,” I sighed. “I was recently fired from my job and lodgings and need a place to stay.”
“No problem at all. I’ll have Jeremy show you to your room. Now,” he added, eyeing the small bag of belongings I was clutching, “where are the rest of your things?”
“This is it,” I replied curtly. George didn’t seem to realise not everyone was quite as well off as him.
“Oh! Well never mind about that. Tomorrow we shall go out and buy you some new clothes.”
“Thank you,” I said politely, feeling intimidated. George always had that effect on me.
Jeremy took me to my bedroom of the next week or so. It was a large room with dark green walls, ebony wooden furniture and a large four poster bed in the middle of the room. I had never stayed in anything quite as grand. I placed my bag on the bed and began to unpack my very few belongings. Then I returned downstairs for the most tedious dinner of my life.
George talked the whole way through as I silently ate my food, nodding and shaking my head when appropriate. I had no idea what he was talking about, stocks or something, but I wasn’t going to let him intimidate me further. My plan fell apart, however, when George asked my opinion on the current state of affairs. My reply went something as follows:
“Why yes, state of affairs these days. I can’t help but agree with you on that topic.”
George then told me he hadn’t given his view.
“Oh,” I replied. George laughed heartily.
“Never mind, old chap. I’ll help get you up to date with all the latest news.”
Oh hoorah.
When it was finally over we both departed to our rooms. I quickly got changed and once in bed began thinking through what I was going to do. Firstly, find another job. Secondly, find another home. I was not going to spend more time than necessary with dearest George.

Please give your honest opinon. Thanks :)
It's also set in the 1930s :)

It's quite good but there's just a few things I'd change:

Firstly the "incident" you described sounds really, really generic. You really should try to think of something different. You say times were tough, so perhaps the business just fell under or Mister O'Hareling died/got arrested, or you could think of an entirely different "incident".

You say "Mister O'Hareling" too many times. After the first time you should just shorten it to "O'Hareling".

It seems a bit odd that you say "and then I remembered my brother" as if the protagonist had been living in poverty for months before finally remembering his super rich brother. Say something about how he didn't want to resort to staying with his brother, he'd been thinking about it for a while but was trying to hold it back, couldn't stand his brother but it was the only option left.

"Jeremy" is a very clichéd name for a butler.

The story is set in the 1930's so it seems a bit odd that there can be such an enormous difference between the wealth of two brothers. I know George is meant to have worked really hard and been successful and everything, but in reality he'd need to have had really good education or inherited wealth, which the protagonist would have as well. Don't call it a mansion. Large house at best.

I would also suggest you make George a half-brother. This will help the reader to sympathise with the protagonist hating is half-brother. George should still say "Brother!"

He said/she said is best. There are too many adverbs, cried curtly, politely. Adverbs tend to state the obvious and make it look like you're trying really hard to look good. For example ""Thank you," I said politely." - How else do you say thank you?? And "I quickly got changed..." it doesn't matter how he got changed. In fact, I'd just skip that whole bit and go straight to "once in bed I began..."

Finally, I think George would probably be too busy to go shopping with his brother, send the butler instead.

couple paragraphs of my story, mind helping me spice them up?easy 10 points?

I need some constructive criticism,
different ways of saying this would help to.
please be brutal if you need to be.!
Im afraid im telling the whole story of the family to soon. The paragraphs before it are the beggining, they just talk about the main character and her dad driving off the highway and then ..

My parents had just signed the divorce papers a week earlier. All of the family’s neighbours and friends thought the divorce was out of the blue, but my brother and I was surprised it didn’t happen earlier. Our parents let us choose who we live with, and my brother, Jason chose Mom and I decided to live with Dad so he wouldn’t be lonely. I’m older than my brother, by a minute so I chose to take the responsibility of the older sibling and go with Dad. He’s usually never home, he works a lot and he’s usually gone for a week or two at a time. Jason needs mom, he’s always getting into trouble and Mom always bails him out. Jason and I aren’t like normal brothers and sisters, were actually kind of friends.
When I realized my Dad was done with conversation I threw my ear phones back in and began to doodle. I flipped the page in my notebook and tried to draw something new, and less depressing, but nothing came to mind. About an hour passed and I noticed the car was starting to slow down. I looked out my car window and noticed it stopped raining and there were children running up and down the side walk jumping into puddles. I looked to the houses and noticed that they all looked familiar. The little green house on the corner of the street looked like I’d seen it before, and even the stop sign made me feel like a was having déjà vu. Then I knew what was going on when we pulled up into the drive way.
“Were home.” My dad said and I could feel him looking at me but I was too shocked to reply. We were home. When my parents split up my Mom kept the house and my dad didn’t want to stay in New York any longer. He said it was too loud and polluted. We were at our old house, we lived here until I was about 11 or 12, then moved to New York so my Mom could start her “Life’s Dream” as she called it. I cried for months after that. We moved about 6 years ago, and I had almost forgotten about this place. This was my home. The white sidings, the black window shutters, the long drive way, the huge dark wooden doors.
Before Rick could say anything else I pulled the keys out of the ignition and ran to the house. My feet splashed in the puddles while I ran up the walk way. I made it to the door. I shoved the key into the lock and turned it and the wind pushed the door wide open. It was just how it used to be. The kitchen on my left, living room on my right, dining room down the hall on the left just past the kitchen, and the huge staircase splitting into two directions. All the furniture was covered by white sheets, and the house was a little dusty. I stepped into the house and leaned against the stair case railing.
“It needs a little work but it will be back to how it used to be in no time at all Lexi bear.” Rick was in the house holding two bags, one which was mine. He startled me, and I jumped off the banister and noticed a line of dust along my pant leg, so I patted at my leg to brush it off. My dad loved this place when we lived here, even though he was rarely ever here and usually at work. I remember his old office that he would stay up all night in, working on projects. Mom hated that.
rick is the fathers name...
I tell the readers the fathers name in the paragraphs before these. :P

Just a question.
''Before Rick could say anything else I pulled the keys out of the ignition and ran to the house."
Who's Rick? I thought her father was driving?
