Welcome Home Furniture

I am looking to redo my parents living room. It is really bare and cluttery. We are planning to repaint but I need a place where I can go get some modern accessories/furniture (lamps/end tables/curtains/etc) at a reasonable cost. I shop mainly in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. Any help or suggestions are welcome and appreciated!!

If you have an IKEA near you, it is a great choice for modern, clean line furniture and furnishings. If you want to go for traditional or antique look, look on E-Bay or some local antique shops. Online, you can also try Overstock.com. Good luck

me and my boyfriend have just bought our first home and will be moving in just before christmas, so far we have,
-blinds
-beds, bedding, pillows
-fridge/freezer
-dining table/chairs
-television/stands/dvd/games consoles etc
-tumble dryer
-settee

it already has built in oven/hob/grill, dishwasher, wardrobes/drawers.

i am trying to compile a list of other things we need so we can tick them off as we get them. has anyone got any ideas?

Greg, because i would like to think that there are some people who actually have set up a home for the first time and know what is needed. I just dont want to miss anything off the list.

flashlight
towels (bath and kitchen)
doormat for front door
cleaning supplies
vacuum cleaner
cooking utensils (spatula, tongs, measuring cups and spoons, etc)
can opener
toolkit
washing machine

if you have a yard either hire someone to mow it or you will need a lawn mower, weed eater, etc.

rugs, artwork, curtains to make it your own :)

Have fun and enjoy your new place! You will come up with more once you get setlled. And you might get some stuff you need for Christmas too!

I need to set up an ecommerce web site, from the beginning a domain name to payment by credit cards. I hope to save cost by using do-it-yourself to design the web site, etc. Is it easy using their template? Or should I just pay some professional to design it. Which would be better to have contract with, godaddy.com, register.com, or yahoo small business? Welcome any suggestions and samples of ecommerce site that are up and running.

Im going to open a small (legal) home daycare. I really would like it to flow with the decor of my home, which is a clean, classy approach of Americana Prim. I would like the playroom to be homey and welcoming like the rest of my home. I found a table and chairs set I would like to paint myself. Its pre made pine furniture and paint that sells for cheap at our local craft store.
My husband says I should have everything plastic, (like little tykes) so if they bonk their heads it wont be disasterous. These children will be under my constant supervision, and the room isnt stadium sized, so I doubt they will actually get up to speed running to cause a huge injury. I said I dont want the house to look like toys r us blew up everywhere and HE said, well, that's what kids want.
Tell me, would you as a parent 'look down' on the fact i prefer wooden furniture to plastic? I found those really cute wooden play kitchens, book shelves, and things of that nature i would like to use.
Its just a basic round table, four skinny legs, and little basic stools or chairs (depending on what the craft store has) im going nuts here trying to figure out how to get a pic on here....

no sharp corners... safety always in mind...
yes, i will find the best clear cote to put over the top, and i will use lots in order to hold up to constant wear and scrubbing!

the table is for the playroom, not the dining room, if that helps anyone..

Most nurseries in the UK have wooden furniture - it's much more durable than plastic. Little Tykes etc. isn't intended for constant commercial use, it's intended for one child who will only use it for a short time each day and will grow out of it before it wears out.

Just make sure that the finish is extremely durable - will the paint you plan to use hold up to being washed down every day and antibacterial spray being used on it every time a kid spills something on it? In a daycare you are going to be cleaning way more often than you would your own child's stuff.

Our kitten hides from our family and we have trouble coaxing him out. We adopted him from whiskers. He was handled by a wonderful caregiver who cured him of respiratory problems as a small kitten. He is very shy. We have a 12 year old female who is pretty cuddly but hisses at the new member so we have been trying to introduce them slowly. They have separate dishes and kitty box. Our house can be noisy with kids over. We thought it might be helpful to keep the kitten in my daughters room with her at night and we have the litter box in her room and cat food until the kitten adjusts. My husband thinks that this is unsanitary and the food and box should be downstairs in the kitchen. However, when we bring the kitten downstairs, it seems afraid and wants to run and hide under furniture and not eat. How can we ease the transition for this adorable frightened kitten? we have only had him for three days. (christmas present for my daughter). The cat has been neutered and shots too.

You may need to get your kids and your husband out of the house and then you can.....help your kitty get used to the place. Imagine a 4 month old baby in your house. It will be scared because of the kids and chaos. I think it needs some time to settle down in a quite and relaxed enviroment.

Oh and dont force him to come out...
