Is there a place where you can buy complete model home rooms (furnishings and decor)? I live in Southern California (Inland Empire). I've heard that there are model home furniture stores. I wonder if that's the furniture right from the model homes or just identical to it.
The best place to buy model home furnishings is at the STORE. Really. Go to the nicest "design furniture" stores (very high end ones) and you'll see that they sell off the model showroom pieces at great discounts. Each store has it's own policy , rates etc, but you can get some very nice stuff a great discounts simply because it was "modelled".

I have seen this for many different prices. The lowest I've seen so far is $2400.
So where is a good location in Southern Ontario? And what is a good price to pay?
ps: It seems that most furniture websites all seem to be duplicates of each other and don't show prices :(
It is leather and seems to be a good deal. I don't think it's power reclining. Most Palliser stores have this item at $3000 and up. I've seen as high as $4000.
These days you can find sets like this in just about every furniture store. If this set is leather, than the price is very reasonable. I would expect it to be much higher.

I'm moving to southern CA at the end of this week. I'm renting a pickup truck to pick up some used furniture from various private homes. They all seem to be around the Hollywood / Hills area, and the pickup times are spread out throughout the day.
How can I make the most of 4 hours of downtime in that area? Should I park my pickup truck somewhere? Where? How much will it cost? What can I do with those few hours in that area?
You can go shopping a little bit, suggested at The Grove, a nice outdoor shopping area off of Fairfax Ave. To eat, get In-N-Out Burger, they cook up the best fast food burgers in the country. Try not to spend too much because California is a bankrupt state and tons of people are losing their jobs!
Yet again, spending does help with the economy...
I am looking to do some major redecorating in most of the rooms in my home. I am very interested in a specific look that I am having a hard time finding anything on. I want to do a very simple theme of old Southern decorating, from the 20's/30's. What I keep coming coming up with are photos of the old Southern Mansions, etc and extravagence...That's not what I want...I want the very simple, basic look of the everyday homes...I'm trying to find out what type of furniture was used, fabrics, rugs and accent pieces...Does anyone know where I could find some photos of homes/rooms like this? I'm thinking along the lines of To Kill a Mockingbird, Fried Green Tomatoes, etc...Simple and Southern....
Any ideas?

I don't have any online resources, but a fun way to get ideas may simply be to rent the movie Fried Green Tomatoes, To Kill a Mockingbird, and another great one from that era is O Brother Where Art Thou. Watch some movies, get some great ideas. Can't beat that!

Southern California Ranch Style Modern Home
Some people’s vision of a ranch style home is a more western or rugged theme. This Southern California modern home is anything but “home on the range”. True, it spans out a good distance as most ranch style architecture does, but the details are very modern. This is the Sharpe residence in Somis, California designed by SPF Architects. Somis is near Ventura and about 60 miles out of Los Angeles. An interesting take on the home is the choice for a ranch styling as opposed to a more built up version such as a 2 to 3 story project. The home has a very narrow and long footprint. By design this was the choice of the home owners and I cannot be sure as to their reasoning. I can only speculate that they wanted to enjoy the wonderful Southern California views on either side of the home building it in a long format. As far as interior rooms go, I am quite fond of the wine cellar area with the dining table. This would be a great place to have dinner or share a bottle of wine with family and friends. Via .
