do you think it pays to make a trip from Florida to NC to buy furniture to furnish a home? Do you actually save money?

Mark-ups on high end and good furniture are as much as 500% in a typical furniture store. What I have done is locate a small local store, and I go talk to the owners. I let them know what I want, and when they say they don't carry that, I suggest that I will pay them a 50% markup, plus their delivery fee to my house, in advance if they will order it. This is a sale they wouldn't have otherwise made, with no risk of loss, since you have paid up front.
This is far cheaper than paying NC prices and freight, or picking it up yourself, as you need some experience to load and move new furniture without damaging it. (90% of damages are not breakage, but rubs, nicks, and scratches

I am traveling down to Jacksonville, NC to help my fiance move back home (he's getting out of the Marine Corps). Anyway, we plan on getting an apartment within the next couple of months and we've heard that North Carolina is the furniture capital and that it has amazing prices. If anybody has any recommendations for stores it would be greatly appreciated. We definitely do like the nicer things and one of the major items we would like to purchase is a sectional sofa. Thanksss :)

It is true however the pricing found in The NC furniture market is to licensed furniture retailers. They're are a few exceptions. You'll have to do your homework. There are many companies claiming to sell wholesale to the public and if you have really shopped and know your stuff you'll will find they're a fraud. Your best bet is to look for legit dealer you know. Follow their sales and close out and liquidations. You can find good deals this way. Sometimes they advertise them on places like Craigs List and Backpage.com

I'm moving out on my own for the first time but I'm having to leave my bedroom furniture at home. I'm obviously on a budget so where can I find some cheap bedroom furniture that still looks presentable for my new bedroom??? :)

I only live about 20min. north of Charlotte. In Kannapolis they have a lot of funiture from K-Town funiture that are just too old to keep in stock. Most pieces are about 2 years old, so they are selling them at Big Lots for less than half the price. I saw a Queen size sleigh bed, very nice, for like $150.00. It looked really nice. It's not your normal Big Lots CRAP. Most of their stuff looks good until you sit on it. It's never comfortable, and normal use wears out the fabric in a few months. This is quality stuff sold in a bad store for a super low price.Hope this is some help. If you have the time, there are plenty of cheap funiture stores further north where it was built. Up around Lexington, NC about 40 min drive, north of Charlotte.

I have a few friends that have started businesses, one a rug and home accessory, and another a furniture business, I have always wanted to own a small furniture and home accent business and have gone to the market in High Point NC and Atlanta Georgia.Buying from the manufacturer is not cheap and the mark up would have to be ridiculas.You also have to make major purchases to carry most lines of furniture. I would be more interested in discontinued or floor samples.They both are very successful and are hush hush about where they get their merchandise. but I do know that they get it dirt cheap and they travel to pick everything up.I am more interested in sofas. Can anyone give me some ideas where to start.

You might try joining an industry association, with which you could obtain a list of other members, including their specialty. I'm not sure which association but look for something similar to a furniture wholesalers association.
