I want something modern and unique, but not the Jetsons. Maybe something minimalist and edgy?

I would have to say ikea... overstock has good things too.. You really might like the furniture on urban outfitters.. and anthropologie is nice but def. pricey

In a two bedroom apartment, is it ok to have a really old fashioned bedroom (Victorian furniture or older) and a really modern home office with avant garde furniture, or would the two clash too much?

It wouldn't win any awards from "Architectural Digest", but it would probably be OK for most people's sensibilities. Many people decorate different rooms in different styles and manage to pull it off. What it would do is give you an excellent opportunity to see if you prefer one of those styles over the other for future reference.

I recently purchased an old roll top desk for my home office. On the tag inside of the unit, it says "H.O. & R. Co. furniture 18635". I have tried to google this, and it keeps suggesting "H & R Furniture", but that is a modern company in CA. Does anyone have information on this tag?? Thanks!

I'm a 14 year old girl if that helps.
Needs to be modern, light, airy, colourful and spacious.
I'm on a budget of £500
Need bed and furniture, like a desk or drawers.
I love IKEA stuff.

Although its a bedroom it needs to double as an office and private space.
Sorry should of mentioned its not a foster home as such.
Its a children's care home for abandoned kids, orphans etc.
Oh and need wall paint.

I would suggest a futon or click-clack that gives you seating during the day and becomes a bed at night. Opt for a computer type desk that has some shelving on top. Find a dresser that goes with the desk, pick out some bedding in the colors you like and use one of the colors for window treatment and throw pillows. Use decorative boxes or baskets to put stuff in. A lamp by your desk, and a couple of framed posters will help to put your individual stamp on the place.

Are there consignment shops where you might find furniture cheaper? What about checking ads in the papers? In the United States, people move all the time and sell what they do not want to move with them (college towns & military communites especially).
