For example, headboard, footboard beds, what size, king, queen, double, twin? Specify which. Pine, Cedar, oak, sycamore, cherry, mamosa logs, simple or elaborate design. Clear or stained finish (what color stain). There are many log furniture builders online which are very expensive, The average person cannot afford this type of furniture. I want to build unique products, the average person can afford to buy. How much would you spend on a custom bed of your design?

We just bought a custom white cedar log bed...king-sized...built in Northern Michigan. We paid the wholesaler $480 and $100 for the delivery. Like dummies, we thought we could easily do the set up ourselves. Real dummies. They're very difficult to put together because every log was custom cut and we needed comealongs and straps to hold things in place while pounding the side logs in place on both top and bottom. I'd have happily paid them $100 to assemble if I knew then what I knew now.

Realistically, king white cedar beds retail in Michigan for between $800-1500. Pine runs about $100 cheaper. The designs would be considered "rustic" or "Amish" in style.

Well, something more rustic would probably work. If you went too modern, it would clash with the house. I am not one for being all matchy-matchy with decor, but low lines, sharp corners, and chrome might look a bit odd with a log home. At the same time, something too similar would look monotonous and boring.

If the logs are visible on the inside of the home, perhaps getting something in the same wood, but a different shade of the same color as the wood could work. If the place is log only on the outside and drywalled on the inside, you have more options on the color and type of wood.

You could also go for something that has a stone top or a stone look. You keep with the natural/rustic feel, but don't go overboard on the wood look.

Upholstery (assuming that's what you're doing with the chairs) could be solid or a very simple design - thin lines, but not really stripes or small dots. You don't have to go crazy here either and do leaves or trees to keep with the log home.

I have new cedar furniture (log home style). I do not want it stained. I want to protect the wood, keeping the natural color. I want a matte finish. I've heard tung oil, linseed oil etc. Not sure what to do?

ps: this is for indoor rocking chairs. May possibly be put out on a covered porch in the summer months, so water proofing is key.

You could use a protective sealant. It won't distort the color. and it has no "sheen". The sealant soaks right into the pores of the wood.

I need to know what kind of marketing, networking, email contacts, etc. that my wife can do from our computer while she's at home with the kids? I make and sell rustic handmade log cabin furniture, mostly on the Internet.

I work in marketing and have recently started a web site to help people learn about affiliate marketing.
Your wife can market right here on yahoo answers... do an advanced search for people asking questions about handmade furniture and if you have a website she can send them a link to your site.
Also, she can write articles and post on sites such as:

www.articlesbase.com
www.amazines.com
www.articlecity.com

Have her attach the link to your site in the source box and before you know it you'll have lots of traffic, which means more sales.
You could also post on sites like craigslists and ebay.

I have the plans but don't know where to get the wood. I have asked at the local home improvement stores but they dont have it. I want to make a queen or king sized log bed.

I think answering your question with another question might help. Is there a local firewood seller in your area? they do cut and deliver right? my answer is : call a few up and ask for what you want. They would probably even be glad to cut the lengths to size for you! cheers~
p.s will probably cost a lot less from them too and who would know what woods are best to use and available
