As the time for buying/building a house is coming close, I decided I would like to design my house in a traditional Japanese style, though modernized. I love the sleek looks of the wooden ceilings, wooden furniture, paper doors/dividers, and tatami and wooden floors. I'd like to use a rather traditional layout of a home. However, i do live in Florida, and most if not all of houses these days are made out of cement blocks, so the outside would have to be more modern (though I really love the idea of an open engowa!) Can anyone provide me with examples or pictures of this and common floorplans? And maybe, if possible, the name of a program I could use to possibly give life to a design myself? Thanks!
I'd really like some floor layouts :)

10 quick points!!!!!
It really depend on what you want and what you can afford. Japanese theme is more zen and simple straight look. Green furniture will not go with the Japanese theme as mostly they are dark brown in colour. Its good idea to have green colour furniture where you can paint the wall white with a little decorative or display of red or yellow to make to room modern and like a garden; which give you a peace and calming feel

OMG!! Chocolate and Vanilla sounds so good,... I love that.
That's also a good choice because you can match a lot of stuff with cream and brown and there is plenty of CHEAP, BEAUTIFUL brown and cream furniture out there. And you don't even have to search hard to find exactly what you need for that THEME. GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!
Since we are moving to a new apartment, my boyfriend and I are looking to decorate in a bit less "this is my apartment, look at the bare white walls" style. However, we can't really agree on a design. He's into a very Japanese look, and already has several pieces including: a beautiful Japanese dining table and cushions, two Shoji screens, lots of paintings (not anime wall-scrolls, real and very beautiful paintings) and several paper lanterns. I, on the other hand, have very little by the way of furniture, but yards upon yards of lovely Asian brocades, velvets, and sheer organza in jewel-tones that I'd like to decorate with, Indian style cushions and throw pillows, and several Indian style sculptures.
My question is this: He has a very strong Japanese-cultural style, and I favor an Indian feeling. Cool jades and bamboo, with simplicity and the "less is more" ideal meeting warm and romantic, plush jewel-tones, rich brass, and almost burlesque Moulin Rouge/Elephant Room styles? How do I get all that to blend without looking like a hot mess? Any ideas are welcome. Pictures would also be lovely <3
go for an eclectic exotic asian feel for the whole apartment

Japanese Soaking Tub in Stainless Steel | Furniture Fashion
Japanese Soaking Tub in Stainless Steel
The “Soho Bath” is a Japanese soaking tub available from Neo-Metro. Whereas the more common examples are constructed of wood, this model is made of stainless steel. Some may argue that the lack of wood takes away from the restorative abilities of the tub and that stainless is not “personal” enough. I will leave that up to the readers to decide. Here is an earlier story we ran on wooden Japanese soaking tubs . This monster holds 150 gallons of water and measures 42″ x 47″ in diameter. One fact about steel is its ability to retain heat or cold. Recently, metal ice chests have been re-released that were once popular back in the 1970s. This is an example of how well metal holds heat or cold. More product information: here .
