Home Office Furniture Desk

I have a square room with large windows on the south wall, a smaller window on the east wall, a closet on the north wall, and an empty east wall. I have a large bookcase, a small cabinet, and two desks I am trying to arrange to be practical but not overwhelm and crowd the room, especially since it's all dark wood furniture. I've tried angling some of the pieces, separating the desks, putting the desks together to increase my workspace . . . I'm just confusing myself? Any suggestions? And please don't suggest those furniture arranging programs, I'd really just like to hear people's actual visions for arranging the furniture. Thank you!

How about putting one desk under the south window...then use the 2nd desk to form an L shape...(unless a 2nd person will be using this desk). If 2 people will be using the desks, put them under the south windows facing each other.

Then put the large bookcase on the east wall... under the window or beside it...with the small cabinet on the north wall (by the closet door).

With this arrangement, you can see out both windows and the door.

Have you thought about painting the desks a lighter color so the room won't be full of dark wood?

I want to reavamp my daughter's room so that is is suitable for her as a sophisticated retreat when she comes home from university. As she is studying medicine, she will be a student for years to come and needs a room where she can work as well as sleep. I can't find a UK supplier that can provide wardrobes/desks etc all in the same range. Any ideas?

MFI do a range of bedroom furniture with matching office furniture. I've just had someone in to build me what I want. No dearer than buying it flat pack from a shop.

I am looking for an inexpensive computer desk (and hutch) for my home office. I want something attractive, of course, but I don't want it to fall apart or give me the frustrations that I have with my current desk- such as jamming drawers. Bush seems to have fairly attractive designs (from what I see online), but I was wondering about the quality. If you have any recommendations for an attractive, inexpensive desk/hutch with decent quality- let me know! :)

I have a Bush desk that I have had for about 6 years. It's good quality as far as the 'workmanship'. That is to say the drawer and door on it has stayed 'true' and both open and close with ease.
What I am not overly thrilled with is the finish of the piece. Mine is a cherry stain in color. I have a few scuffs on the surface of the desk that I haven't some up with a way to repair. I don't use the desk roughly - just your standard papers, computer keyboard, glass or cup (drink) on a coaster sort of items on the desk-top. So be prepared to wipe up any rings very soon if you set a glass/cup down and get a wet ring on the desk top and that sort of thing. I wish they would have put an extra coat of urethane or whatever on the desk top to increase it's durability.
We have moved the desk a couple of times (big m oves - in moving vans) and it still is in good shape as far as the 'structure'. Again, my only 'issue' is being very mindful of the desktop surface.

We recently bought a home with "unique" taste. I am looking to renovate a bedroom that will become our home office. It used to be an 8 year old's bedroom with aqua blue walls and a dolphin border.
I am looking for a traditional/contemporary look- crown molding, big dark brown leather chair with ottoman, bookcase, and dark colored desk. There will be a lot of dark wood and dark leather in the room and I would like to pull up the carpet and lay very dark, thick wood flooring. Other than a tasteful colorful rug, what recommendations would you make for wall color, trim/crown molding finish and accent pieces?

I think that you should paint the room like a light brown or tan because this color goes really well with dark brown colors.

I want to buy a desk for my home. I would like a nice one, not a cheapy flimsy one.

In this economic climate where a lot of businesses are unfortunately closing down, where can I go to buy a desk (almost new) from a company which is liquidated?

Does anyone know any salvage dealers which may have these desks?

I only want one, but am looking for good quality at a reduced price.
