how would you decorate this room for a home library?

We have a pertty large room in our house that is being totally unused! so i've been thinking about making it into a home library. i love to read as well as write so this would be a bit like my own slice of heaven. so how should we decorate?
like i said, it's quite large (larger then the bedrooms because it is on the third floor) and has amazing bay windows that i've had a book shelf custom to fit into. the carpet is sand color, and the bookshelf is stained in a deep mahogany color, but other then that, it's empty. i'd like to do the wall opposed the windows in a full bookcase and maybe put a small desk opposite the door with a computer. i'd also like to but some "comfy" furniture in there so we/I can read and some very nice lamps since there is only one small ceiling light. the walls are a cream color...please suggest what color i should paint it and how can i tie the whole room together and make it have a really cozy, calming and comforting feel? maybe a dark color paint? ahhhh, please help? thanks!

Aside from the book-shelves, the only furniture you need in a library is a desk and some comfortable reading-seats.

Choose the desk (or work-table, if you prefer) according to whether your library is also a home office, or you want to do personal writing at it (letters, your own novels), or it's more of a reading table, where several books can be opened and laid out simultaneously. Place the desk/table where sitting at it gives you the nicest view -- you then have an incentive to avoid eye-strain by looking up and changing your focal distance every so often. :-D

Seating for reading is usually comfy upholstered stuff. One thing I found in my library was that heat-control is important, especially in cold seasons. When we read, we're sitting still a lot! So I got snuggle blankets (and made a quilt) in the colors of the room, and included durable decorative pillows, too. (Sometimes I or my kids like to read lying on the floor.) My favorite pillows are a set a friend made for me -- all sizes, made in washable brown velveteens and satins, made to look like fancy candy-box chocolates!

You've already figured on lighting needs. I found that the single-bulb ceiling fixture that our room had (built in) was totally useless -- we couldn't even read the titles of half the books at night by it. We ended up with five small-ish lamps, all with very long cords, and each easy to pick up and hold near the bookshelves with one hand. A couple of small pedestals (like empty plant stands) are handy, too, placed ready in the darker corners.

The color scheme for my library was ivory-white as a base (we have a no-food rule in this room -- if the kids want to eat/drink while reading, they have to take it to their bedrooms), with maroon / navy blue / dark hunter green as the lively colors. As snow season looms, darker accessories (toss-blankets, pillows, lampshades, little artworks) are put in; as the weather warms up and days get longer, I put lighter-toned accessories and fabrics in.

I hope this helps! I've had this scheme for many years, and it still works for me -- but I'm not afraid to update the details, either. :-D

And have fun!

How much is it to build my dream home?

I know I could never afford such a house.....but tell me how much this house would be worth? I want 6 bedrooms, half court of a basketball indoor gym, a game room, excersize room, indoor swimming pool, 7 bathrooms, a movie room, a living room and a family room, laundry room of course, marble floor for most of the floor in the home, a library and a nice size patio. I want all those features in the house: how much would that cost if I already have the land, how long would it take to built, how many square feet would it be for everything? And the rooms would be at least 13 X 14, and a swimming pool with a basket hoop and a diving board, how much would all this cost? how long? how many square feet is this house? mortgage? tax/year? how much if they provide the furniture and without the furniture?
I live in Minnesota, I prefer living in Eden Praire for my dream home if I win the powerball....

Are you kidding? You must be a little girl that is dreaming.I would say $2, 659,095.21 without the furniture. It would have 12,861 sq. ft.I cannot figure taxes and mortgages, sorry. 10/10

Can anyone help me with some Interior Designing ideas?

I decorated my room, and I absolutly loved doing it. I want to be an Interior Designer when I'm older. What can I do to prepare for doing that job (Besides collage,I'm 12)? I have "Punch! Super Home Suite" (The $40 one), I check out books from the library, and I love looking at matching furniture, pillows, valences, ect, ect. I just don't have anything else to decorate! I just moved, so I don't have many friends yet (And I'm homeschooled). My Mom won't let me re-decorate the rest of any part of the house. What CAN I decorate?! My room is complete, and I'm not changing it for quite a while. I'm so bored I'm figuring out what my house is going to be like when I grow up! Any ideas to what I can decorate?

At the moment I can't use my right hand because it's broken. Also I cannot sketch worth poop. 5 stars to best answer!

You should make little models of rooms in different designs that you like, all it takes is a cardboard box, or something similar and some imagination, let me know how it all works out...

Why aren't their parents confining them to their home?

I hear of and know people(adults over 18) who are womanizers, homewreckers, get pregnant out of wedlock, have financial problems they lose a place to live, a guy going around shopping malls and grabbing women's breasts. But I don't see their parents confining their adult offsrping in their homes and not letting them move out.

I don't do any of the above and I am still confined to my home, only allowed to volunteer at library and go to church. My parents refuse to let me move out because I made mistakes(I learn from them). So why are my parents confining me to their home but the parents of the above adults are NOT confining them to their homes? I don't get it!

and if I tried to move out they wouuld physically force me back home
I'm 25(besides I can't afford furniture and not strong enough to move furniture)

If you are over 18 you have the right to move out of your parents' home. This sounds like abuse to me and you should contact the police for help with this situation. If you want to move out, move out. You can get a restraining order against your parents easily if this story is true!

What would be the centerpiece of your dream home?

And what do you think it says about you?
a. Tennis court, Olympic-sized swimming pool or weight lifting room.
b. Art studio, music studio or dance studio.
c. Giant kitchen with industrial appliances
d. Home theater or game room
e. Lounge with great sound system and a drinks/snack bar
f. Elaborate dining room with crystal chandelier
g. Beautifully decorated master suite and a walk-in closest with the last est fashions
h. Front porch with a swing, shade and lots of climbing plants
i. Giant bathroom with the most stylish fixtures and lots of vanity lights and mirrors and an area to style hair.
j. Big garage all set for working on cars, carpentry or other DIY.
k. Lovely garden that you have planted yourself.
l. Grill, patio, and lots of places for friends to hang out.
m. Computer lab and/or electronics lab.
n. Home office with the most stylish office furniture and highest-end technology.
o. Cozy den - nothing fancy.
p. Big play room for kids
q. Something offbeat like a garage converted to a haunted house or a basement converted to a Medieval dungeon.
r. The whole place, filled with pets.
s. A quaint little parlour where I serve tea.
t. A library filled floor to ceiling with books on all subjects.
u. A laboratory where I can make weird inventions.
v. An obeservatory.
w. A little train or ferris wheel or other amusement that I offer to all the neighborhood kids.
x. The horse stable.
y. Meditation center in the quietest spot in the garden
z. Kitchen table with lots of sun streaming in through the windows in the morning.
oil field trash - lol.

Let's assume you are in the black with 0 debt/all paid in full and any add ons were paid in cash and you also have a few million in investments and savings and your kids all won full scholarships to college.
