Does anyone know where to buy good quality furnitures?
I have been shopping around and even read some terrible reviews about EQ3 and I was about to spend all my savings for my new home and luckily I didn't. I do like their style but online reviews have told me that their stuff break apart within the first year.
I live in Canada, city winnipeg so we don`t have that much options, please let me know where to buy furnitures that will last atleast 5 years. We do not have Ikea yet
Here is what we have:
Leon's Furnitures
JS Furnitures
EQ3
Urban Barn
New Line furnitures
Bella Moda
The Brick
Kern-Hill Furnitures
Dufresne
Country Wide Furniture Villa
Ashley's Furniture
La- Z- boy furniture
Teak Furniture
Treehouse furniture
Sears Home
Each of those furnitures (Ashley's & La Z-boy for instance) are two different styles. We have LaZboy rocking chair actually we have two from them. One is in hunter green leather. They're good quality brand if you like that style. We've bought one folding bed from Sears, only because they're the only ones who have the size/color we wanted for our spare room.
I'm not familiar or have heard of the others you mentioned.
You don't want to buy from Ikea. They are cheap & too simple. I see many people giving them away on Craigslist.
You want one that is classic and will last for years, not just for one season. You could also find some classic 100% wood in antique stores.

Moving from the Midwest to LA - for work, but it's Not absolutely a "permanent move" - could be 2-4 years.
We have an entire 3 bedroom house to move.
Not sure if the moving truck expenses would be more than the furniture is worth. Most of the furniture is a hodgepodge of very cool , but no so "expensive"antiques,found/ garage sale furniture and alot of sentimental stuff.
But we are debating if we should store the more personal items (or take with)and leave the house furnished and rent it out ...or move it all.
Thinking it may be more cost effective and sensible to furnish the LA place with furniture purchased in LA rather than haul it all to LA.
If anyone has made a similar move and words of advise either by what you did or in hindsight ?
Rememeber,We are thinking of renting out the Midwest home (possibly furnished), since the current economy won't support selling at this time
I'd say that it depends on how much furniture you have and how nice it is.
We moved from Missouri to Idaho about 3 years ago and it cost around $1500 to use a "You pack it, we haul it" company called Broadway Express. They were wonderful to work with, and everything arrived safely and on time.
For reference, we were moving from a 2 bedroom apartment, about 1000 square feet. Also, the company is based out of Illinois, if that makes any difference to you.

At the end of the month, my fiance and I are closing on our first home... a log home! Natural wooden walls, floors and wooden ceilings. ALOT of brown.
We were thinking of creating a "modern look" using modern furniture, really" LA style" tempered glass modern coffee table.. bright red sectional with a modern area rug for the living room.
Stainless steel or black appliances and grey slate tile in the kitchen, with again, a bright red rug near the foot of the sink to pop against the grey floor.
Is this foolish, should we decorate with a "traditional" rustic look instead? We are torn!
Thoughts and input on how you would decorate a log home would be most appreciated... thanks!
Classic modern furniture always looks good. Contrasting with the rustic home will work fine, and avoids the cliche of country rustic in rustic.
Also modern furniture (not contemporary) actually has a common design element with a log cabin. Each style emphasizes structural elements (exposed beams, logs, exposed chair frames) as design. Because of this core element, properly selected modern furniture can be very harmonious with the elements of a log cabin.
I would suggest that you consider oriental rugs rather than modern. These will add to the mix and make it all less rigid.
The important thing is to love what you select, and for it to be functional. For a timeless look, I would also suggest classic modern over contemporary. Consider Barcelona, Eames or Wassily chairs and a Nogucci coffee table. Good online sources are dwr.com, and italydesign.com
Have fun and good luck!

Don't get a TV stand from Pottery Barn. Their stuff is not optimized for electronics. Did you notice there are no electronics in the TV stand in the photo?

La Cornette Country House | Design, Interior, Home Stuff & Modern ...
From design firm YH2:
“Built on the slope of a small hill, La Cornette is a country house open to the pastoral landscape that surrounds it. Under a soaring roof resembling a nun’s cornet wimple is a roomy dwelling modelled on traditional Quebec houses of old that lodged large families and their relatives. This house for celebrations and holidays, designed for two families, is set into the naturally uneven terrain in a way that brings each level into direct contact with the surrounding natural environment. It offers a resting place for all guests under its large gable in a series of bedrooms and unusual sleeping areas.
An out-scaled structure, like the agricultural buildings that surround it, the house is both traditional in its morphology and innovative in its use of materials. Shingled with raw fibre-cement panels on the walls and roof, it is a house beyond the domestic scale, simple and rot-proof, capable of standing the test of time. The house is striated with bands of horizontal windows, giant louvers that cut the sun at its most powerful, with new points of view at each level. It is protected by its wimple from the hot summer sun and inundated with light in the winter, needing neither air-conditioning nor heating on sunny days.
