Hi, I heard that furniture is oftentimes sourced and made in North and South Carolina. I was wondering how to go about finding reputable wholesale dealers that could ship furniture to me for a home.

Some years ago, I had to go to Hickory, NC. They had a three story shopping mall filled with nothing but furniture stores. So Hickory, NC would be a good starting point, plus, in speaking with them, they had transportation available and made weekly trips throughout the US. People would buy there and then have it shipped to their front doors at home.

I'm not real familiar with the prices of furniture, but the group that I went with said that the prices were cheap as compared to what they paid for similar pieces at home.

I have a few friends that have started businesses, one a rug and home accessory, and another a furniture business, I have always wanted to own a small furniture and home accent business and have gone to the market in High Point NC and Atlanta Georgia.Buying from the manufacturer is not cheap and the mark up would have to be ridiculas.You also have to make major purchases to carry most lines of furniture. I would be more interested in discontinued or floor samples.They both are very successful and are hush hush about where they get their merchandise. but I do know that they get it dirt cheap and they travel to pick everything up.I am more interested in sofas. Can anyone give me some ideas where to start.

You might try joining an industry association, with which you could obtain a list of other members, including their specialty. I'm not sure which association but look for something similar to a furniture wholesalers association.

does anyone know the correct name of the furniture outlet mall with 3 locations in the GTA (Woodbridge, Scarborough are two locations) where they had a whole house inside the bldg. and you can shop direct from the manufacturers. I'm actually trying to find out if they have a web site but my searches using "The Home Show" and variations of furniture outlet etc. are all coming up blank.

well.. im not sure if this is waht youre looking for.. but i just moved to houston recently and we went to IKEA and they had rooms set up as displays and they give you wonderful ideas on how to set up to your likings... and very reasonable prices might i add.... they have a website... www.ikea.com ... hope this helps. if not.. then im clueless.. just FYI

Direct Buy is a furniture, appliance, electronics, flooring, kitchen, bath - you name it for the home, and they have it - kind of store. I know there are several across the country, and there's one by me. We are looking to purchase out first home and I was wondering if it was worthwhile to join, as we are starting with practically nothing.

I forget how much it costs, since I checked it out years ago, but at that time, I felt that by shopping around, I could get what I was looking for at a better price than I could through them, and still save their fee.

The best thing for you to do is to look around your home and see what you'll be buying next. Take a look at their store for it, and once you get pricing on it and their membership, then go shopping for it at other stores BEFORE you sign up with them.

Just compare, and make the decision based on your actual experience.
