Looking to move furniture from Calgary to New Brunswick.?
P1040111.JPG

I only have a bedroom set and about 6 boxes. I can't get rid of the furniture and need to get it across the country. Can you ship by train from here? I can't find any information to contact anyone to get details (unless I'm looking to ship a car). HELP!! I need to be home before Christmas!

You would be far better off to get rid of the furniture and if you can some of the items in the boxes. It is going to cost you more money then the stuff is probably worth in the long run. The train will cost you a small fortune, and I am not even sure if they will ship it.

You can try calling a moving company to ask how much they would charge, but be prepared for it to be a lot, I wanted to send my son's stuff out to him in Ontario from Saskatchewan and I was quoted $3000 for just a small packing crate/shipping pod type thing full of stuff. Was about 12 - 4 cube boxes 3 - 5 cube and 10 or 12 - 3 cubes.

If you can sell it try Kijiji.

Please help, I'm really stuck - Eventually sell home or keep it as collateral?
P1040112.JPG

I am in my mid-twenties, and I am attending an expensive university in Southern California to get my Master's degree in Clinical Psychology.

By the way, please excuse me if I use financial terms incorrectly...I'm really unfamiliar with financial terminology.

I am originally from Canada and am a home-owner in Calgary, Alberta - my parents sold their large house when I was 20 and bought another house for themselves and build a smaller house under my name. I am technically a property owner. They did this so that I could get a substantial loan for university.

My property assessment in 2008 was $416,000 (Canadian funds).

I received a loan of $150,000 (Canadian funds) in October of 2008.

I recently spend a large amount of money ($47,500 US) to put a family member through alcohol treatment. I realize that is really expensive, but I tell you, it was worth it to see this person sober. However, that was basically 1/3 of my loan.

My schooling is costing around $62,000 US for the 2 year Master's Degree. With rent, utilities, living expenses, plus everything I needed to buy when I moved down here from Canada (furniture, etc), I am running out of money really quickly. I'm working on getting an $80,000 (Canadian funds) line-of-credit from a Canadian bank with my parents' help.

After the economy improves, I would like to sell my house in Calgary (say, within the next 5-7 years) so that I can begin my life debt-free. My parents want me to keep the house so that I can have some sort of collateral/assets (?) in the future. I am arguing that the house is not really "worth" anything because I have loans that are $150,000 + interest. I really don't want to spend the rest of my life paying off student loans if I don't have to.

Any advice??

Thank you so much in advance.

~K
The first poster is right, it's not a student loan. I was mistaken when I said that at the end.

Also, I am renting the property in Calgary for $1700 (Canadian), which is around $1500 US.

I don't really anticipate moving back to Calgary. I love Canada and miss it a lot, but I can't take the winters...lol. It does get warm in Canada, but not as warm as So-Cal!
Also, because I'm here on a student visa, I can't legally work in the States until I'm finished school, except for working on campus (and I can only work 19.5 hours/week.). I checked and there aren't any jobs available right now.

To be a Marriage and Family Therapist in California, I need 3000 hours of clinical work experience (which I will most likely be doing for free), so even though I could potentially work on campus, I would like to focus my time on getting my 3000 hours.

I
you are confusing issues slightly. YOUR house's worth and
its debt free or debt status are not related OTHER THAN a lender
agrees or disagrees with you and lends.

DO not become any relative's medical unit--that cheats them and
you. They need to become responsible for their own self; no one
ever took drugs because they were ordered to.

YOU are also equating real estate investing with "all investing"
it seems. I don't know your short, intermediate or
long term return on investment objectives or investment
objectives.

I am in Calgary visiting friends, but i live in Ottawa, they want me to stay?
P1040110.JPG

My address, car liscense, and everything is from ottawa, but my friends want me to live in calgary with them. I want to stay, but that will mean i have to change everything. If i go back to Ottawa and find a roommate, i will have all the furniture i could dream of, because my parents house is full of furniture from our previous big house. I like calgary, but i feel more home in ottawa, because i actually love quebec and ottawa. Canada day is horrible in calgary compared to ottawa. It costs a lot to live in calgary and i don't have a lot of money.
What should i do?

Thank them for the kind offer and say that for a variety of reasons you feel at home in Ottawa and wish to remain there. There is nothing wrong with that.

Who do I call in Calgary to complain about junk?
P1040089.JPG

I own a unit in a townhouse complex that does not have a condo association. There are several units that are owned and rented out. It seems that these landlords have very little respect for the people who live here as they treat the parking lot like a dump!

Whenever a tenant moves out or is evicted these landlords feel like it's ok to take any furniture that was left in the unit and throw it out into the parking lot (I mean they don't live here so who gives a damn right?). As I type there are currently 3 couches and an old fridge festering in my parking lot, they've been there for 2 weeks because the garbage trucks won't pick them up (which is completely understandable). It makes me so angry when I take excellent care of my property and have put a lot of money into making it look good, but the complex looks like a ghetto!

I do not know which units these pieces of refuse are coming from so I can't point the finger at one person in particular. I do plan to sell my home at some point and these people are ruining my resale value.

Who do I call about this? It's been going on for way too long now, seems every month there is more and more furniture littering the parking lot. I'm at my wits end.

Thank you for taking the time to read my little rant. Any info is appreciated.

Call the city in regards to it. I have the contact information posted below:
http://www.calgary.ca/portal/server.pt/g ateway/PTARGS_0_0_104_0_0_35/http%3B/con tent.calgary.ca/CCA/City+Common/Contact+ Us.htm

I am not sure about Calgary but I know where I live we have bylaws against that sort of stuff. When I have problems like that I just call the city and its usually addressed fairly quickly. So if I were you I would contact the city hall in Calgary and see if they can help you out/point you in the right direction.

How many cats are you allowed to have in an apartment building down town?
P1040105.JPG

I live in Calgary and we have a big apartment and we have 5 cats. Recently in Calgary there was a news thing about a big out break of bed bugs and of course since we live in an apartment we got them. We are very clean people we move the furniture and vacuum under it every two weeks we vacuum everywhere else every second day. We dust and everything so we are very clean people. We don't have them because were not neat people. We have been doing so much to get rid of them and they are starting to drive me up the wall. Rubbing alcohol kills them so I pretty much soaked my room with it today but I can't keep doing this I want to go to the office and get them to hire someone to do something about it I can't take it anymore. My step dad wont let me because apparently in Calgary your only allowed to have 2 cats. If were only allowed to have two cats then wtf did he want so many for I don't get it. Plus our neighbour she worked for the building before she found a better job and they have 4 cats and they did before she worked for the building. I don't think that this 2 cat thing is true but he wont believe me and I just want these things gone. They were suppose to be gone before I came home from my trip and they aren't. What should I do? and is this true about the 2 cat thing?

well if the cats are married im sure they can live in a cute little cat duplex thingy...:3

  • Hooker Furniture Secrets | Living Room Furniture Sofas

Hooker Furniture is a business that has been running for more than 86 years and has been delivering great value to their customers for many years. They have incredible furniture and have a unique way to their approach to building a business. They are one of the only companies out there I see using video to show incredible product demonstrations for their business.

The other cool thing about Hooker Furniture is how they stay on the cutting edge like building customer lists on twitter and Facebook. It’s been a long time coming for this business as it was over 40 years ago where owner Clyde Hooker Jr. pulled the steam whistle starting off the first day of work for this furniture business.

The future is very bright for Hooker furniture as they keep expanding by purchasing seating companies like Brandington-Young and even more recently expanding their furniture business by acquiring the Sam Moore business. This allowing for greater growth in an industry where profits have dropped tremendousness.
