i'm trying to decorate & furnish my apartment on a student budget. anyone know any cute stores??

p.s. i'd prefer an actual store rather than ebay or overstock so that they'll move it in for me!
p.p.s. i'm in austin if that makes a difference

You can get some pretty interesting stuff to decorate your home with from Kirklands, or somewhere like Pier 1 Imports. You would be suprised what kind of amazing stuff you can find. And they are usually in or around pretty much any Mall, or big city area.

Is there a place where you can buy complete model home rooms (furnishings and decor)? I live in Southern California (Inland Empire). I've heard that there are model home furniture stores. I wonder if that's the furniture right from the model homes or just identical to it.

The best place to buy model home furnishings is at the STORE. Really. Go to the nicest "design furniture" stores (very high end ones) and you'll see that they sell off the model showroom pieces at great discounts. Each store has it's own policy , rates etc, but you can get some very nice stuff a great discounts simply because it was "modelled".

I've come across numerous furniture and home furnishings that were claimed to be 'Made in Thailand' with obvious mark-ups near where I live. I'd like to seek out authentic and more unusual pieces. Perhaps antiques. Are certain regions of the country known for this?

And is it frowned upon to make inquiries if something is not or not obviously for sale?

Chiang Mai in the north is a handcraft center and there are many furniture factoires in the area... I live not too far from CM and the border town of Mae Sot and much of the teakwood furniture that is sold in CM also comes from Burma - it enters Thailand from Mae Sot.. So, prices for this type of furniture should be most reasonable there and you will find some antiques in Mae Sot as well, but rarely furniture - - wood does not last too long here and real antiques are not easy to find - though reproductions abound.. If you are doing this for business, you can figure an extra 40% on top of the cost of purchase which will include shipping and customs brokers fee.. You might also consider, especially on a first shipment that US Customs [ I assume US? - sorry if not ] might cut off some legs or whatever in a search for drugs.. You should also consider maximizing your profit by bringing in other things as well that are smaller, less expensive, sell quicker and do not take up as much room for shipping.. All these stores within 20 miles of each other: The Blue Snickel ,
The Tweed Weasle, The Plaid Pig, The Country Crow, The Old Country Porch
and Valley View Country Store. All of these stores are pretty new too. Ever heard of any of them?

I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF ANY OF THEM. BUT I BET THEY ARE COOL, I WOULD LOVE TO SEE THEM. I KNOW THIS KIND OF FURNISHING IS VERY POPULAR. AND THEY ARE ALSO VERY MIX AND MATCHABLE. YOU COULD DO AN ENTIRE ROOM OR USE A FEW PIECES AS ACCENTS. I HAPPEN TO LOVE THESE STYLES. YOUR HOME WOULD LOOK GREAT DECORATING WITH IT!
