Drapery Colour Ideas for Dining room and Living room/Office?

New home in the country - large diningroom and using the livingroom as an office/sitting room. Need the right drapery for both. Most of the house is done in dark taupe with white trim.

I have a white electric fireplace in my office which we brought from the last home (no it can't be painted nor do I want to). The office & dining room will be the only rooms in the house looking feminine. I love shabby chic & French country, but because the pets are everywhere I am instead of going for white duck covers for the loveseat & wing chair I covered in prairie blue. I want to use existing and new artwork. The diningroom furniture is glass table with espresso legs and buffet which I know is neither shabby or French. I am thinking of trading 2 or all the 4 chairs for faric to floor parson's chairs.

There are vast windows in each room with gorgeous views of the garden I want to frame.

I want to tie in existing expensive artwork. The colours in the art are mostly blues, greens and pink (ie. pink peony and anopther has a blush pink mat) and are pictures of old stone buildings with gardens and window boxes full of pink petunias.

Flooring is walnut coloured hardwood.

The rooms are both large and the diningroom if fairly sparse so I think full curtains may warm it up.

So, does this give you enough info for suggestions?

Plantation shutters to match the trim and mulberry drapes would be perfect. The mulberry is feminine without being screeching pink. I would line with a lighter tone mulberry like this.

You can fussy them up as much as you want. http://fashion4windows.com/images/storie s/plantation_shutters/polycore_shutters/ Picture13.jpg

In the end you have a look that will instantly adjust the light while you are working...Embrace your beautiful views and with closing either the drapes or shutters in the evening have a look of formaility or coziness.

This is 100% scam. This sounds very familiar to the Nigeria scam, or the 419 scam. If you do a search on google, you can find all the details on the 419 scam, but long story short, there have been people who had been duped, lost money, and even had their lives in danger from it.

Avoid any emails that ask for your bank information. Any kind that asks for it outright is a scam.

I need others' opinions about personality clash/opposing values with my husband?

My husband and I grew up in very different households. He was very poor and in the projects. His mom was the primary caretaker and made all of the money and decisions. She bought many items for him and his sibling from yard sales, second-hand, or just the cheapest thing in the store. Their attitude was use the item and show it zero care; whatever happens to it, just buy another cheap one.

I grew up in a middle class home. My dad worked and mom stayed home. We were not spoiled, but my parents could afford to buy things that were of a decent quality for me and my sibling. We researched our purchases and bought the best quality we could for the best value. We were taught to take care of our property; if something broke, was lost or ruined out of neglect, we had to go without it.

I guess anyone can see where this is going. Flash forward to our marriage. We both went to school and make okay money. Now we own a home and are buying things to fix and fill it. My husband wants to buy cheap things, and later replace them with better. I want to save up, wait until we can buy decent quality and then purchase. Why waste $250 on a cheapo sofa, that we will replace in a year or two? I would rather go without or get used items and save to replace them once. Because of this, I have purchased many of the items in our home, including our furniture and his clothing. (He REFUSES to spend money on clothes. He ripped the butt out on his dress pants and safety pinned them to go to a funeral and couldn't see why he needed to buy new pants. They were fine with the pins in them.)

Then, when we do buy quality items, my husband treats them with no respect. He never takes care of anything. He is rough and careless with things, often losing, damaging or breaking them; he then just says , "We can buy another" or "Don't worry about it. It is no big deal."

This is driving me crazy. He wore brand new tennis shoes to paint and caulk around the house. (He wears a size 15-these are expensive and hard to find.) He wrecked our brand new car into a fire-hydrant, because he "forgot" to pull the emergency break and left the car running, on a hill, IN GEAR, to run into the house for something he forgot.

We CANNOT buy another $1,000 sofa on a whim, because he jumps onto it (He is 6'5 and over 300lbs), or sits in it with his keys in his pocket and scratches or rips the leather. We CANNOT buy another $700 dollar home office desk on a whim, because he puts glasses directly on the wood. The worst part, is that some of the items I am still paying on when he misuses them. And he has absolutely no remorse, nor does he change his ways at all.

I am beside myself with this. I work hard to buy decent things. I do not waste money or spend frivolously. Why can't he respect what we have? Why doesn't he want our home to look nice or be comfortable. Why can't he understand that we could have a very nice life if he would just put things back where they belong, think a minute about the best way to do something or use care when he does do something. We could save so much money and make our lives easier.

He is a hard-working, decent guy who would never cheat on me. He is kind and loving. He compliments me every day-sincerely. I know I should be very grateful for this fantastic guy in my life, but his carelessness and disrespect is really causing issues.

Does anyone have any advice or an opinion of how I could make him understand what our problem is? Or maybe something sage that would help me to understand why he refuses to take care of things? I know how he was brought up, and his parents are STILL the same way. His mom is a hot mess and they "yard sale" ever weekend, buying LOADS of junk that they horde. (They even have their 2 story-double stall GARAGE "decorated" and have 9 full size curio cabinets in the 1st floor of their house CRAMMED with stuff. Please do not think I am a judgemental witch; I once had to use their $1.50 ironing board that was as high as my thighs, while ironing with a 50 cent iron that had never been cleaned and had deposits all over the surface. It took me 45 minutes to iron a shirt.)

Help, please.
We dated for 5 years before marriage, but did not live together. I knew he was slobby, but he promised to try to be neater. I had no idea what he was really like until after we married.

It sounds like you two are fairly well-matched. I don't see any problems. You should stay together and let this go..

How pathetic am I?

I can laugh at myself about this (yes, even through the pain) about how much of an idiot I can be!!! How pathetic is a person who knows very well that it takes two people to move furniture, yet still attempts to do it themselves going down three flights of stairs?? That;s exactly what I did!! I was trying to surprise my husband with a home office since he's going to be working from home. So I managed to get a 5 foot tall metal filing cabinet down, a big stand with three glass shelves, and a big couch. The idiot part of me was the couch. Yeah, I got it down through sheer will and determination, but it fell on me during the last flight. I now have a tightly bandaged right hand due to multiple contusions on hand and wrist. My left foot is bandaged up, big toe is broken, and nail broken. I wrenched my back. I also got multiple little slices on my arms and legs from the bottom of it where there are staples (?). Due to that, I got a tetanus shot. Have you ever been so stupid?
And were you able to laugh at yourself about that stupidity while learning a valuable lesson from it? (In my case, never move heavy furniture down stairs). And for religious people, what does it say about a person when they can laugh at their own mistakes?

Hey sister...
Is the couch alright.!

    Contemporary office furniture

If you want to give your office a modern look, you will need to have it furnished with some contemporary office furniture. Classic and timeless furniture is here to stay and is quite a regular option. It is the contemporary furniture that will make a strong impression. The bright hues and the geometrical patterns all make the contemporary office furniture standout loud and bold. This is particularly going to work well with your home office if you plan to have a contemporary home décor.

Contemporary office furniture is described as sleek and alive. Glass is an important component of this style of furniture. A glass office desk is something that you might find in almost every office. Be it the office tables or desks, file cabinets or chairs – the options in the modern furniture range are absolutely endless. This particular style of furniture has a lot to offer to suit every person’s taste. It can actually reflect your individuality to a great extent. A vibrant person can have bright red office chair and a complimenting white glass office desk or perhaps something in black. A more professional can go for neutral shades of beige and off-white. It is not just the color palette, the designs also differ extensively. From the regular circles and rectangles, you can try some asymmetrical geometric shapes to add a little jest to your monotonous office work.
