d is right. most of the affordable furniture sold in the western world is made in China. There is nothing wrong with the quality, and now that there are regulations regarding paint, you should be fairly at ease with the materials.

that said, it is a wise idea to support your local economy & fellow countrymen by buying furniture made in the USA or whatever country in which you may live. otoh, most of those items will be more expensive because westerners put a higher value on their time & labor.

Some things look so simple but they're expensive because they're made by a famous designer. I think the right people in China could cheaply make a good replica with quality material, saving lots if it's all shipped home in the one container. Anyone have experience in this field?

Making cheap replica's is what China does.

This is one of the reasons that good American manufacturing jobs have moved overseas. Spurred on by US government deregulation of the last 30 years, and the tax avoidance of capitalists.

Unless you know the supplier very well or have someone that can supervise everything from selecting the products to final delivery, for you inside China, you may end up getting poor quality products and shipment. You may also have to pay tariffs for the imported goods at the port of entry.

Im looking to buy entire living room sets and a dinette set. I've seen great quality made in China furniture being sold at upscale stores here in the USA. Any advise on obtaining such stuff in Beijing? After shipping, can I still save $$$$?.,etc.
Correct. I am NOT interested western looking furniture. I have seen some very good reproductions of 17th century French furnishings with the made in China stamp. Open to other styles too.

you have to estimate shipping cost which is charged by volume not weight, air shipping will be a lot. By ship is the recommended way however your also have to pay custom fees if any, and then shipment from the port in the USA to your home. you do the figures.

includes a dining table ,4 chairs, small china cabinet , a set of living room furniture, which is a long sofa and 2 chairs, an old tea trolley, clothes, and 2 sets of china and crystal

You need to contact cargo companies for estimates, and then double whatever estimate they give you for other charges that they haven't informed you of.
