Black Home Office Furniture

In my home office/bedroom, I am using black furniture with chrome accessories and handles, and need a color to paint my walls that will match well, in addition to a good bedspread color.

Does anyone have some suggestions? I want it to be warm and inviting, but not bland.

Well there are a couple of things you could do( depending on your style.) If you are one of those out going types try a baja red or another shade of red. If you are a little more laid back try a light blue or a nice shade of olive green. As far as bedspreads go for the red try a lighter color like yellow or orange. If you do the green, use a navy comforter and maybe some cream or orange pillows. I am trying to get a feel for the room but I am not sure if I have the right feel if not sorry, But I hope this helps.

I want it to feel relaxing and comfortable, yet a little formal. The office has mostly black furniture. It also faces the formal dining room which has white wainscoting and is painted a burgundy color. It is also at the front of the house so guests see this room as soon as they walk in. Thanks!

play around with the Sherwin Williams color visualizer to find colors that you like. It is the best paint visualizer on the web, imho. I like how their color palette is laid out, I like that you can search by color family & color name, the "painted" rooms look the most realistic, and it suggests coordinating color schemes. Okay, so i have a really boring cluttered home office and i really need help. It has white walls (blech) and a lot of black and dark cherry wood furniture. I really would like to keep with the cherry wood.

Unfortunately i have a bland, uncomfortable futon (blue "mattress" with black "supports") that i can't get rid of. I also cannot get rid of the large map of town and the large high school class pictures displayed on the wall. (though i would appreciate some help on how to display them, right now its pretty much one, then below, another...)

Anyone have any ideas for wall color ( i REALLY need help with that) and what i can do about the futon and what i should do about the wall displays and etc?

Right now my home office is very cold, bland and unattractive-looking. I really want to soften it up while keeping the pieces i already have (2 end tables, 2 desks, a book shelf, all in dark cherry wood. Also the futon, though it seriously needs help).

you said it feels "cold", it may be because of the lighting. Are you using fluorescent lights? If so, you can try getting a more yellowish looking fluorescent lights to cut down some coldness of it.

or even lighter, for the molding on the wall, paint it white. You can keep all your cherry wood furniture but get rid of the futon or move it to the guest room or garage. Then get a simple but romantic looking pendant for general lighting. Decorate the room with some fresh flowers. A leather sofa will be good too. For the map...frame it with the color similar to your wood furniture. Hang it on one side of the book shelf, and the class pic on the other side. This should give you a simple English country house look. Hope this helps!

We are organizing & painting my home office (small, maybe 10'x10' with an average ceiling height). I need help choosing paint colors & wall placement for this room to promote productivity, creativity, alertness (yet not distracting), and maintain quality lighting (im an artist). I have 1 decent sized south-facing window and 3 very large BLACK furniture pieces that I need to work with. Two large & very tall bookshelves (one covering an entire wall, the other covering about half the wall). These both have some show-thru to the wall behind them at an empty shelf state (not for long). I also have a solid black 5'x6' cubby type unit that has no show-thru. This room harbors LOTS of supplies & resources for our home (books, office & art supplies, photos/keepsakes, etc) as well as a computer & home/business office space. I intend on using containers (boxes/magazine files, etc) for most of the shelving for organization. I want the room to feel bright & energizing & organized (to counteract my late night exhaustion). Painting the furniture is not so much an option. Does anyone have suggestions for paint colors that will provide what I need and work with the black furniture? And if you're good, can you suggest which (or how many) walls I paint what colors to promote a spacious feeling in this tiny & full room? Thanks!

WEll my dear since your an artist the shelving back should be painted with colors that inspire you i would also do the same with your supply boxes coordinate the paints with the boxes. The color i find energizing is aqua not a dark one one light and the color of gold well what inspires me is glittery and like stained glass and rich colors like burgundy,crimson red, as for the curtains if you use any which I love the color of metallic and sheer w with fringe. Another way of doing color in the shelving is maybe a painting or a sheet painted with what you like eith er staple or frame out from the other side.
