My bassett hound pup is six months old. It was freezing today and he had to stay indoors while I was at work. came home and found that he had chewed up the leg of the chair to my $800.00 secretary(desk) in my living room. I love the dog and we are finally coming to a point where we are beginning to live harmoniously together. Anyone have any suggestions that will help me stop him from chewing on the furniture? Killing him is not an option!!!LOL!!! Seriously I need help here any ideas? Bitter apple does not work.
All your ideas are great. I tried crating him and he absolutely won't have it. I guess I will have to seclude him in the laundry room while I am at work if he has to stay in all day. He hates that too though. As far as chew toys, this dog owns one or two of everything PetSmart has to offer.
i love basset hounds, good choice for a dog
with the chewing problem tho, try lemon juice, the sour taste should deter him, if that don't work you may have to buy a kennel or like an indoor fencing to limit his mischief makings, but if you do try this be sure to have a variety of toys and chewables to keep him from being too bored. the idea is to keep his interest on his toys and things that he can chew on til he gets a little more forgetful of things that he can't.

Here is a list of companies that have already relocated according to CNN. Everyday the list grows. Who will pay for the underprivileged when all we are is peasants waiting for the bread line to open. And dont forget, its not just the income tax from the company that we loose but also all the jobs that were lost and those taxes as well. Maybe Mccain had a point after all.

Not very long. We could bring them all back home AND $12 trillion in offshore accounts with the FairTax Act. H.R. 25
For those who don’t know about the FairTax, a little background:
The FairTax Plan is a comprehensive proposal that replaces all federal income and payroll taxes with an integrated approach including a progressive national retail sales tax on new items only, a rebate to ensure no American pays federal taxes on spending up to the poverty level, dollar-for-dollar federal revenue replacement, and, through companion legislation, repeal of the 16th Amendment. This nonpartisan legislation (HR 25/S 1025) abolishes all federal personal, gift, estate, capital gains, alternative minimum, Social Security, Medicare, self-employment, and corporate taxes and replaces them with one simple, visible, federal retail sales tax – collected by existing state sales tax authorities. The FairTax taxes us only on what we choose to spend, not on what we earn. It does not raise any more or less revenue; it is designed to be revenue neutral. The FairTax is a fair, efficient, transparent, and intelligent solution to the frustration and inequity of our current tax system. More details can be found at www.fairtax.org
The income tax equation is income- taxes-compliance dollars = spending
The Fair Tax equation is income = spending + taxes+ compliance dollars, so here we are taxed as we spend and keep the compliance costs

Back in August my husband brought home a Bassett puppy. He thought it would be the perfect dog because HE thought they were "lazy". I really didn't want to get a dog because we have 2 kids under 3 and I really don't have time for a puppy, but caved and told him he could keep it. We made an agreement that he would have to take care of the dog when he was home. I told him that since it was his dog, he would have to do a majority of the training and housebreaking. Fast forward to now. The dog is 8 months old and still not completly house broken. We just built a new home and moved in last April, and now our beautiful new home smells like dog piss the minute you open the door. As if thats not bad enough, the dog, has chewed on almost ever piece of furniture in the house, has destroyed my childrens toys, and attacks my cat on a daily basis. I have begged my husband to get the dog trained and he says he's fine and doesn't need a trainer. Any tips on how to resolve this situation.
I don't want anyone to think that I don't do anything with the dog or just ignore him when my husbands away. I take him on walks with my kids, play with him, and give him love. But I have a 2 year old and 10 month old at home and can't always make the dog my #1 priority. I really like the dog and don't want to give him away. I just don't want him to destroy my home. If it comes down to giving the dog a better home then I would do that because he deserves it.
Sounds like the dog is behaving like a normal Basset puppy.
Bassets can be difficult to housebreak, and as you have discovered they are NOT lazy. Chewing is something most puppies do.
You're right, you DON'T have time for a puppy. If I were the breeder I would not have sold him to you, simply because 2 toddlers is more than enough work for the average mom.
Sounds like hubby is NOT upholding his end of the agreement. Although I normally do recommend obedience classes, they are not likely to help you with your two issues. Hubby *can't* really train the dog properly, because he's off at work and you're the one at home dealing with the dog.
First YOU need to decide if you're willing to take on the full responsibility for educating the puppy. If not, then you need to let hubby know that the dog has to go. The current situation is not fair to you OR the puppy, and by giving him up now he has a better shot at getting a good permanent home.
If you decide not to keep the dog, first contact the breeder (if you got him from a good breeder) and see if they will take the pup back. A good breeder will always take the dog back.
Failing that, try contacting your local Basset Hound rescue and see if they have any room to take him. If you're having trouble with that, drop me a line and I'll see if my rescue contacts can come up with anything.
If you do decide you want to work with the dog, I can give you some suggestions.

We recently purchased a new home, and I'm having issues arranging the furniture in our master bedroom. The only two walls that I can place my bed in front of each have a 37" square window. My bed would be directly in front of the window. I'd really like to position the bed diagonally, but the room feels really cramped that way.
How can I either conceal or decorate around the window? I'm really at a loss. My headboard is 61" high and covers the bottom 12-14" of the window. I'd like to put something on the wall to completely cover the window, but I have no idea what to do so with. HELP! Here is a photo of my bed and coordinating furniture: http://www.vaughan-bassett.com/index.cfm /go/collections.show/collection/8/grandm as-treasures-collection.cfm
do the whole wall in curtains
it will add texture and you wont even see the window
