Our living room and dining room is the standard T shape. In our dining room we have birch colored table and china cabinet and the living room is antique stained furniture. Do you think this clashes or is it ok to mix colors in rooms like this? Does furniture all have to be in the same shade of color in order to flow correctly?

You can do anything you want to do in your own house! Different colors of wood can live harmoniously in one room. Watch some of the many home shows on HGTV, and you'll see how well this works. Your paint, fabric and accessory colors are what ties a room together.

Me and my wife have a whole room in our house that is the classroom ...we have 2 desks one for each of our kids. We have a real standard size chalkboard, bulletin boards (that my wife decorates) we have artwork on the walls ....we have a computer desk with 2 side by side computers for the kids to use. My wife has her laptop to use. We have a high price copy machine/ printer and scanner....for all worksheets. We have a reading area, also writing area. I love it....I was just wondering what kind of set ups other parents have for their homeschooled children? Is it the dining room table? Ours use to be while we were waiting to get our classroom furniture in. :) God Bless Homeschooling Families! (cause it's truly a labor of love)

We just get ours done either at the kitchen table or (weather permitting) outside at the picnic table.

I have a large pantry in the utilty room that holds all our school books and supplies.

We have one lap top computer that we all share.

I have a dry erase board mounted on my kitchen wall to use as needed.

I have large maps mounted on the walls in the playroom and the utility room, available for reference.

Nothing fancy, but it works for us.

Im looking at using an Interior Designer to look at giving an overhaul to some rooms in my home (Dining Room, Lounge, TV room and kitchen) but would like to know what is a standard rate charged for this service? Is this normally charged per hour or room and if so how long would a job take. I want a redesign, new wall-coverings, layout, furniture etc. How much should i expect to be charged? I live in the UK, North West

It is usually $100 to $120 US for a visit. It works though and really you save money in the long run because you get the colours of paint that will really work in your space. They advise you on whatever you ask. You can walk them through your house and get ideas of furniture placement, paint, accessories etc. Write a lot of it down so you don't forget. Also if you find pictures of ideas you like then have them handy to show the Designer so that they get an idea of the kind of environment you want to live in. They are usually at your house for a couple of hours. You will be very happy you hired them. Ask friends or at Home Shows for referrals. Also design schools can advise you where to find a competent one. Good luck.

Can anyone please give an idea about the approx. cost for following furniture. I need this to decide whether I should go for a SF or FF apartment because my stay would be around 2 years in Bahrain.

1- Modern Platform Wood bed with side tables, chest and wardrobe.
2- Living Room Furniture Modern artificial leather Sofa set (3+1+1), center and single tables and a center Rug.
3- Modern Glass and wood 4 seater dining table.
4- Sony Bravia 40 inch HD LCD with standard home theater system
5- Crockery and kitchen ware.
Kindly mention approx. cost in Bahrain item wise. It will be quite helpful for me.

I will give you the approximate cost, but bear in mind that there are shops that sell expensive furniture such as Pheobicia, freedom ... etc. and reasonable prices such as Home Center & Home Stores.

1. It ranges from BD400 to BD2000.
2. Leather is costly. I bought my modern sofa set from Phonicia and it is suede NOT leather. It cost me BD900. As for the center table, it does not exceed BD100. Rugs can be expensive depending on the quality. It ranges from BD50 to BD800.
3. I bought mine for around BD300.
4. I bought my Bravia for BD400, home theatre will cost you another BD200+.
5. It can cost between BD100 to BD400
