I have a 16ft x 14ft main living area in my new build house. The developer expects us to fit a dining room table and sofas etc in the house as the show house did but I cant seem to find furniture which fits this space. I currently have two large sofas in the room but would love a dining table. Is this necessary?
Everyone says Ikea, but all you will find at Ikea is overpriced items. Ebay may be a good start, but you may find unreliable people on there. More and more people are starting to buy furniture online (what don't we buy online nowadays!?). Like I said, Ikea is overpriced. Yes it has beautiful items, but not worth the money. You can find much better deals elsewhere.

I have spoken before on here and outside of here of moving out of home due to it being time for me as i am now 29 female, and also because of family problems/issues.
I think some answers may have been given under yahoo not yahoo uk, as alot of people talied about apartments, and also thinking in the way of costs and moving etc packing etc like i'd be getting a big place.
Although i know it will still come as a shock when i do it, i have calculated, and know that at the very least i would want a studio/flat.
my problem now, is although i feel my personal probs are draggingme down, makes living there difficult, i am when i have spare time at work, and in eve's weekends or when i get time off work, trying to sort myself out to prepare for moving, i have found alot of helpful advise for looking for private rented accomodation on my local councils website, and have also looked at removals companies whom have very good tips on there website.
However advice people have given me is of that which may be useful for someone moving out of a larger place, i mainly just have my things but alot in my bedroom that i have at home at my parents.
And if i were moving into a resonable size barring the fact they are all designed different, studio, i will have limited bedroom, dining/kitchen and bathroom space, i know that i will never get all my stuff in there so i am going to have to store a bit and get rid of loads!
Do you think this is possible, i know many friends who live like this.
When i move in, depending on whether its furnished or not, i would have to plan what small amounts of furniture i could take, or plan what i can fit into what is provided.
Then buy cleaning products, other electrical/homeware items, which i have saved quite a nice amount for and for any mother use.
Do you think this is a good plan, so i now feel that my nect continuing step is to carry on clearing and organising my room at home, and once i have done so as far as poss, and packed some things, then i will start looking around for places, and also in that time be palnning who to book removal with as i stress that it will be hard getting it all right at the same time, and getting hols off work to move.
Any advice or further suggestions thanks
This is what I did when I moved to another city, though moving from one place to another is just the same (esp) if you're going to store some stuff here's an idea...
I have an index box. On each card on the top I have A-1 and the next A-2 and so forth. Then on the actual box that i put things in i have that same number on each side of the box. On the index card I have written down what is in that box, so if I store things that won't be coming with me or even is kept in a closet, and I need to locate something, it saves me from having to dig through all the boxes to find one item, i just look at the cards and know exactly what box to look in.
I think it's wise to buy your basics of living before you actually move. Look around what's in your house now you're at and write a list. It's the little things that you can easily overlook that you will sorely regret forgetting... things like toliet paper, plunger, shower curtain.
If you're anything like me, planning is half the fun. Make a list. :) that's what i do. hope that helps!

It's describing the lead characters house, she's showing a stranger around. Any thoughts or suggested improvements welcome, would like to know if it makes sense and if you get a clear enough picture of the house. I can see it quite vividly in my mind, but don't know if I'm describing it that well. I know there'll probably be some typos (they seem to be more obvious once I post bits on here).
After breakfast I take Nick on a tour of the house. Most of the rooms are closed off, to save on bills, so we rush through a billiards room with no billiard table, a dining room with no dining table, an empty drawing room and deserted conservatory. The rooms are cold and lifeless, containing only dust and a few abandoned pieces of furniture; although you can tell the rooms were once grand and richly furnished. They have the air of rooms that have never been lived in and loved.
It would surprise people to learn that most of the house isn’t that old. My family have owned the land for generations, originally living in the castle on the hill. That was destroyed, hundreds of years ago, and all that remains is the old tower. Many years later my ancestors claimed the old chapel and priest house, knocking part of it down and rebuilding it into a much more substantial residence. This was added to and expanded over the years, until it burned down towards the end of the nineteenth century. My great grandfather built this house, onto what remained of the old chapel. He finished just in time for the First World War to take away all the staff needed to run it. He’d planned to use it as a holiday home in the summer and a hunting lodge in the autumn. However, he lost all his money sometime between the two world wars. I think he would have sold it, but there’s some kind of covenant on the land, preventing its sale. I can’t say I really understand the legal tangle my family have wound around themselves over the years.
No one lived here for a long time, until my father was a boy and my grandfather started to use it as a holiday home. My father had many fond memories of long summers spent here. We were lucky to have this place to run to.
I try to explain some of this history to Nick as we make our way upstairs, but I think I may just be babbling and repeating myself. Bypassing the bedrooms, we go to the very oldest part of the house, the library. My favourite place in the world. The library.
It’s a long, low-ceilinged room, with many small, arched windows spaced along its walls. Books everywhere, piled on the floor and jostling together on the shelves, calling to me like so many old friends. Until now, Nick has looked at everything with a dull and lifeless gaze. Now, he seems to perk up, a flicker of enthusiasm in his eyes which I see him try hard to extinguish. He goes to my father’s desk, still as cluttered as the day he left it. Nick picks up a book, another copy of the book currently on my own nightstand. He runs a finger across the embossed name and title on the spine.
The extract breaks off just before the dialogue starts.
The nightstand is in the bedroom. Nick picks a book off the desk, which is the same as one Isabel has in her bedroom (her father wrote the book, so they have a few copies)
Good description of the house but it seems like it is rambling alittle bit.
Is their any Dialogue between you and nick? The story sounds like it is being told in the first person. Let me ask there is a nightstand in the library?
