Okay, the real kicker is I paint furniture, even hand painted detail, not using a stencil. But I just can't seem to form a color scheme in my mind that will pull my dining room furniture together with my living room furniture. My dining room is shabby chic. I have a huge antique dresser I painted white and added an antique cabinet on top of it. It is a wonderful piece. I have been offered as much as 1200 dollars for it.
I have a large dining table and high back antique chairs that I have also painted the creamy white. We bought new leather suite for the living room. I just fell in love with it. I have added dark cherry and solid mahogany antiques as well as an enormous cherry armoire. I want to go for the warmer colors and make the decor flow more evenly. So what would you suggest I do to paint the dining room furniture? I truly need color ideas, painting design ideas. I just don't want to go to a solid color black or red. Something difficult to accomplish would be right up my alley.
Oh, and I can't strip these pieces to re stain them. The woods don't match and the finish was in bad shape or I wouldn't have painted then to begin with.
Thanks for you suggestions and links or photos would be very helpful.
The style of the living room is traditional. The leather is medium brown. The dining room style is "Shabby Chic" which is creamy white, not stark white.
for the one asking about the scheme, the furniture is dark cherry and mahogany which are both dark rich woods. Thanks
Suggestions:
1] paint the dining room the color of living room furniture, and the LR the color [ creamy white ] of the dining room furniture, OR
2] use the same color [ say peach ] or metal [ say brass ] or wood [ say cherry ] for small accessories [ lamps/shades, vases, pic frames, rug, ornaments, candles/holders ]
3] use same fabric for drapes, rugs, or pillows/chair pads
4] add a wash of your fav colors to the dining room furniture, OR
5] add flowers, vines, whatever will go wherever you move!

New home in the country - large diningroom and using the livingroom as an office/sitting room. Need the right drapery for both. Most of the house is done in dark taupe with white trim.
I have a white electric fireplace in my office which we brought from the last home (no it can't be painted nor do I want to). The office & dining room will be the only rooms in the house looking feminine. I love shabby chic & French country, but because the pets are everywhere I am instead of going for white duck covers for the loveseat & wing chair I covered in prairie blue. I want to use existing and new artwork. The diningroom furniture is glass table with espresso legs and buffet which I know is neither shabby or French. I am thinking of trading 2 or all the 4 chairs for faric to floor parson's chairs.
There are vast windows in each room with gorgeous views of the garden I want to frame.
I want to tie in existing expensive artwork. The colours in the art are mostly blues, greens and pink (ie. pink peony and anopther has a blush pink mat) and are pictures of old stone buildings with gardens and window boxes full of pink petunias.
Flooring is walnut coloured hardwood.
The rooms are both large and the diningroom if fairly sparse so I think full curtains may warm it up.
So, does this give you enough info for suggestions?
Plantation shutters to match the trim and mulberry drapes would be perfect. The mulberry is feminine without being screeching pink. I would line with a lighter tone mulberry like this.

You can fussy them up as much as you want. http://fashion4windows.com/images/storie s/plantation_shutters/polycore_shutters/ Picture13.jpg

In the end you have a look that will instantly adjust the light while you are working...Embrace your beautiful views and with closing either the drapes or shutters in the evening have a look of formaility or coziness.

Wood With Distressed White Finish
I have a wood dining room table and chairs, as well as a wood desk. I have attempted to paint them in the past... with the table, I just painted high gloss wall paint on it, but it looks horrible! With the desk, I sanded it first, and then painted white oil paint on it, and it also looks aweful! The paint on both pieces is peeling off in spots... If I leave something heavy on it, the paint pulls off when I lift the object off of the table/desk.
What are the correct procedures to take to ensure that my furninture's paint stays on and looks good. I'm going for the shabby chic look (not with the distressed finish). I want the painted white furniture look. I have young children, so it needs to be something that is safe for them as well.
Any ideas, tips, or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
Hi I tried this before as well but my job came ut pretty good I made sure that I put a heavy coat of primer on the furniture before I painted the color that I wanted Good Luck

I love him so much. We are engaged and have a fantastic relationship. I am not asking if we should seperate. I am asking what i should do. Haha! My house does not "blend". Me and my boyfriends style are COMPLETELY different. I feel like when people come in, they know exactly who decorated what. I have every room in the house except the living room and we share the bedroom. The living room is full of red walls, scarface and mafia posters, skulls, dragons and leather furniture. My kitchen, dining room, and bathrooms are floral and pretty.. shabby chic if thats what you want to call it. It drives me crazy. Its so hard decorating the way you want to when you and your man have 2 completely different tastes in home decor. I am not selfish and even tho i would love to decorate the whole house, i wouldn't think that its fair. I have put a lot of money into the things that i have bought and he has as well, but it just doesn't go together.. Haha! :/
then talk to him and make a compromise about how to decorate.
i'm moving to a house that was built in 1850 and then added onto a few times, I've looked all over for ideas and can't find anything that seems to fit correctly. i like the liberty of london from target and the simply shabby chic by target, all though i can't find the liberty of london in stores anymore and they don't have bath accessories and not enough bedroom choices, and i feel that the shabby chic would be to dull for me.
any who i need help with this i'm out of ideas. i want bright happy colors but i want them to be similar to what they would have used in the 1850s.
