Room Furniture Dining

My dining room is part of my living room (its a combo). Do u think my dining room furniture has to match the colors of my living room furniture, or can it be a different color scheme?

Since it is one room there should be something similar in the design or colours. Example..if you have espresso coloured tables in the livingroom, then a dark or espresso dining set would be nice with the same lines as the livingroom furniture. You can use the same curtains in both ends of the room, or pick up similar colours in art or photos on the wall, or use the same runners on tables..that sort of thing. You can be different, but if you are doing that, then make it a colour for example of the chair upholstry that will match well with the livingroom. Just keep something uniform between the two rooms to unify them.

I'm thinking of buying white furniture for our dining room. Is it easy to keep clean and do you think it might chip easily? I just think it has such a fresh look about it.

It depends on how you maintain it.

I've had a dining set made up of a glass & wood(painted in cream) table on chrome and cream coated legs and matching cream leather chairs. My sitting room also has cream leather sofas.

The trick is to keep it clean at all times. Don't let any stain settle in. Avoid sitting on the the leather with deep blue/black jeans. That's the worst culprit.

I have high gloss furniture in my dining room. I'd like to make it matte, or at least get rid of the high gloss. And of course, I'm looking for easiest (I have to do this myself) and cheapest way (I have very little to spend on this). Do I have to remove the high gloss varnish (if i did, could I just leave a little of the finish on it?) or can I just put some sort of clear matte finish on it?

Can anybody point out some good dining room furniture that would look great for my new house? I don't have any particular taste in furniture, but anything that would look really clean and spiffy would be great. Open concept kitchen, table and chairs and such are now a maple finish, new kitchen is a mahogany finish. Dining area runs right into kitchen. Should I have matching furniture?

No, just find other ways to tie the rooms together, for example, if you have stainless steel appliances, get a stainless steel vase or bowl for the table. If you have red placemats, get red accents for the kitchen. Having wood that is different finishes, but still looks good together shows that you put some thought and creativity into the room. It won't look like you walked into the showroom and cashed in on the maple finish close-out sale.
