Best dining room wood furniture for a toddler?
Pine Stump Table

I'm looking to buy and new dining room set. I like wood but the last set we had was very soft. I think it was pine. Anyway I'm looking for a durable wood that would be good with a little one. Any ideas?

Oak is hard -- any wood from a tree that loses its leaves will be harder than wood from a pine or evergreen. You can also look for a "distressed" finish (not perfectly smooth to start with, but looks gently worn), or get something cheap, like at IKEA, and replace it in a couple years. Or, put pads on the chairs and a glass top on the table to keep it from getting marred. We have a glass top on our wooden table, and while I do have to clean it after every meal, I also realize that a wooden table would be just as dirty -- it's just that the dirt would hide better. (Ew.)

Good luck, and happy shopping. : )

Taupe furniture in my living room, what color walls?

I have taupe leather furniture in my living room, pine armoire and espresso side tables. I need a good wall color to bring it all together. My living room also opens into my dining room

play around with the Sherwin Williams color visualizer to help you imagine how the colors will look together. It is the best paint visualizer on the web, imho. I like how their color palette is laid out, I like that you can search by color family & color name, the "painted" rooms look the most realistic, and it suggests coordinating color schemes. I think "aqua-sphere" (# 7613) might be a good choice.

I have very old original heart of pine floors......what tone of furniture would be best? Thank You?

I love my 1922 Prairie Craftsman home and plan to redo the Dining Room soon........just need to know what tones of furniture and colors would be best with the old pine floors.
I am not asking for a style of furniture, but rather, the type of wood to use ; ie dark, medium, or light tones...such as walnut, maple, mahogany, etc. What would look best with the warmth of the old pine floors?

I am not sure if you meant to say style of furniture. Amish or American style. A table with tapered legs, a trestle, a pedestal base or farmhouse will work in stains (tone) shown in the link below. Paint colors were typically earth colors, such as green, brown or ocher.

What would be a good accent color (or colors) for my living room, dining room, and kitchen?

My house is set up in a way that if I want to paint my living room, dining room, and kitchen, I'd have to paint them all the same color. I plan on doing a light brown, tan-ish color, but I'm having trouble with accent colors because my boyfriend doesn't want any red and our bedroom and master bath are going to be different shades of olive green so I don't want too much of that.

Also, we're planning on getting cherry furniture for the living room and a cherry dining room table, and the kitchen cabinets are pine. The floors in the living room and kitchen are hardwood (a little darker than the cabinets), and the kitchen has white-ish tile.

Should I stick to the same accent color scheme throughout the rooms since their walls will all be the same color, or should I change it up a bit?

Any suggestions would really be appreciated!

Why not use two or three accent colours? You can certainly use more than one! Like my living/dining room had camel-coloured walls, with accents in a sort of sage, and turquoise and orange. I know it sounds a bit odd, but it works well. The trick is just to buy carefully and only what you really adore.

What color paint will tone down color of furniture?

My dining room set is pine....kind of an orangey look. (although my husband doesn't agree with that statement.) It's light wood, brownish orange....anyway....would a gold color paint bring out the orange or tone it down?

the way to detract attention from a certain color is to use similar colors, so I think orange & gold would harmonize well. You just wouldn't want to use blue or green or something that would contrast it, because that would accentuate the orange.

  • Spaces: A blend of old and new - San Antonio Express-News

BOERNE — Yolanda Kovac had been driving by the small brick house near downtown Boerne for about eight years before it finally came up for sale. Built around 1867, the one-bedroom structure had seen many better days when Kovac and her husband, Dave, bought it in fall 2006.

“I literally saw Dave turn gray during the signing, and he kept saying it would be a money pit,” Yolanda recalls.

After two years of work that included gutting much of the original structure, moving the kitchen and bath, and adding a master suite and two other rooms, the Kovacs transformed their house into a showplace that was featured on the May 2009 Boerne Historic Homes Tour. But the change didn't come easily.

“The place was really dingy,” Dave Kovac says. “The original 12-foot ceilings had been lowered to 8 or 9 feet. The kitchen was in a dark corner. There had been a porch on the front of the house at one time, but a previous owner had torn it down because the wood was rotten.
