I am looking for Oriental/Asian furniture specifically a dining room set. I located one store in Frederick but the selection was limited. If someone could help me find such a store in Fredrick or near Frederick I would appreciate it very much.
I am thinking you are in Frederick Maryland with that zip code. If you are you have plenty of possible choices within a 50 miles radius. You are close to D.C. and Baltimore. We lived in Ellicott City for 10 yrs. There are many furniture stores to choose from outside of the Frederick area that would offer pieces that might pick up on the asian look. I don't recall any store that was asian specific. There just isn't much of a call for that. In Catonsville is Bassett and Ethan Allan on 40 and I know they offer some pieces that pick up on an asian style. You might find more choices in D.C. but certainly at a price. Downtown in Baltimore is a great store called Shafers. You might want to check them out as well. The few furniture stores I saw in Frederick were quite conservative

We've had carved Oriental rosewood furniture for the past 20 years. Our large dining room looks unfriendly and harsh, and red/maroon seat cushions and white walls dont do justice to it. Since I live in Pakistan, there is amazing choice of colours & fabrics to choose from (Pakistani & Indian fabrics & crafts are similar) - but what kind of theme & colours go with the reddish furniture? Especially window treatment?
I would love a friendlier, more colorful chic look that also brings out the beauty of the wood , and blends into our surrounding!
I'd appreciate your ideas & imagination, thank you!!
I imagine a peachy color for the walls...almost pink, but with warm red and orange hues. Warm walls will make the room feel more cozy. Play with patterned fabrics of warm and cool blends, only stay away from the greens...
My living and dining rooms are in an open L shape. The walls are pale cream. Dining room furniture is cream lacquer with brass trim. Living room furniture is a cream background with a narrow old rose stripe and a wide delicate leafy floral stripe in pale green/old rose/blue. I have two slate-ish blue chairs. The floors are oak hardwood (I just ripped up cream wall to wall). I need area rugs, but I'm baffled by trying to get something to go with the floral furniture. I thought to get a green in the living room and the same rug but lapis in the dining room. I don't want anything dark, my whole house is airy and light colored. I'm looking at Milliken border rugs. I like the Remington but am afraid it's too severe. I looked at one with an Ionica border, but am not sure about the floral border with my floral furniture even tho they are both delicate. Oriental style is not an option. I have grandsons who are often here so a too light color might not be good. Any help is greatly appreciated.
What I really need is suggestions on patterns.
Go into your local carpet store and select a really nice carpet that suits your style. Have them order a large enough piece and have it bound to the exact size you want it.
Then you can get a really nice, well wearing rug and not spend an arm and a leg on it.

I'm moving into a new condo. Long story short, it's owned by my boyfriend's uncle.... so he's giving me all of the furniture that's in there. It's a very small one-bedroom.
I wish I had a picture, but I don't. It's got white walls, white carpet, white ceilings, and black furniture. Black leather sofa, black tv stand, black dining room chairs, black stools, black oriental-inspired dresser, and a black bedframe with a semi-circle headboard. The coffee table is a rectangular piece of glass over a really awesome panther-sculpture. The panther's shoulders and hips hold up the table.
The only splash of color is the cabinets in the kitchen that have been painted a bright turquoise. The condo is much more modern than my tastes, but I'm willing to work with it. The only problem is.... I'm not completely satisfied with the way it looks just yet. I hate having so much white and black in a small space. I like the contrast, but it's too overwhelming. Another issue is my furniture I'm bringing with me is mostly earth colors like brown and beige.
Any ideas how I could make this work? Suggestions for painting the wall another color? Or possibly the cabinets? I'm fine with turquoise but if there's another color that works better I'm willing to give it a try.
Thanks!
introduce some color. pick your favorite 2 or 3 colors and begin introducing color. you won't use these colors in equal amounts. play with them until you have a balance that you like.
you said there was turquoise in the kitchen. Is it visible only in the kitchen or can you see it from other parts of the condo?
if you can see the turquoise from other areas of the home then you want to bring in 2 more colors.
some colors that look good with black, white, and turquoise.
coral--either the bright red shade or the paler pinky-orange shade
beige--the color of sand
silvery blue gray--the color of driftwood
dark green--the color of kelp or palm fronds
I confess turquoise tends to make me go tropical but you can just as easily go with desert colors for the turquoise. (thinking about where I might see things in nature helps me figure out colors)
turquoise could also take you to the Agean (think Greek) or North Africa (think Morroco)
you can use an area rug to help break up the white rug and define a space.
you can use pillows and throws to introduce color onto the furniture.
bring color in your accessories and wall decorations.
bring in live plants for color and decoration.
Scenario:
You are a famous furniture designer. One of your clients has requested that you design a dining table with the following requirements:
i. the table must harmonize with the oriental interior décor of his apartment,
ii. the table top should be made of natural minerals,
iii. the minerals must be in its natural form (ie. it must not be chemically treated and chemical coating should not be applied to the table top).
After days of putting your creative juices in action, you managed to design a dining table that is of award-winning quality. However, you need to do some research on minerals to determine the most suitable one to be used as the table top. After completing the first phase of your research, you decided to focus and research further on the following 3 rock types:
i. Metamorphic Rock (Pumice)
ii. Igneous Rock (Marble)
iii. Sedimentary Rock (Sandstone)
Also put in mind cost , durability , aesthetics
Marble is the best choice. It will yield a smoother, less porous, and likely more durable surface than the others. As for harmonizing with the decor, that is a matter of aesthetics and certainly not my forte'. Although given a wider choice, a nice jade mosaic of a dragon for the table top would do nicely. After all, if I'm a famous furniture designer it's going to sell for a bundle anyway, so material cost isn't that big of a deal.
BTW, you have pumice identified as metamorphic and marble as igneous, which is backwards.

Kyoto Modern Round Dining Table by Birdman Furniture
If you liked the Metro dining table from Birdman Furniture , then you will probably love the equally stylish Kyoto round dining table. Once again the name would imply an Asian theme, and designer Frans van der Heyden delivers just that in this modern 8 person table. The contrast of the round top and the three bent and tapered legs create a strong look from simple elements that make the best of sharp edges. Birdman furniture offers the Kyoto 170 cm round dining table in four finishes which include light, dark, slate, and rose for adaptation in various environments. The Birdman line includes some really cool lounge chairs , accent tables, and lamps that are a must see.
