The cabinets are maple, the counter tops is granite (tan/brown with large black flecks in it - reminds me of cheetah fur color-wise) and the floor is a darker, reddish hardwood, maybe cherry? I like "espresso" colored furniture - will that match? Or clash like crazy? Do I really need to use maple colored furniture? I'm not too in love with maple colored furniture and I'm afraid that's just too much "wood" looking. Other material/color suggestions?
No you do not have to have maple furniture. I have cherry cabinets and floors with a mahogany breakfast table. The chairs are a dark stained birch. It looks great. The only woods you would not want to mix is a dark with a natural stain. Otherwise, your expresso sounds perfect.

Open concept kitchen, table and chairs and such are now a maple finish, new kitchen is a mahogany finish. Dining area runs right into kitchen. Should I have matching furniture?
No, just find other ways to tie the rooms together, for example, if you have stainless steel appliances, get a stainless steel vase or bowl for the table. If you have red placemats, get red accents for the kitchen. Having wood that is different finishes, but still looks good together shows that you put some thought and creativity into the room. It won't look like you walked into the showroom and cashed in on the maple finish close-out sale.

I have some dining room furniture and I would like to buy the hutch, I bought it about 13 years ago and I am certain that they still make it. It was made in canada NB or QC..I think. It is solid maple and the chairs have three flowers carved in the back rest. It is a very common design but I cant find the manufacture anywhere online and there is no indication anywhere on the set.
Without knowing much, you might have to "wing it".

Dining and Kitchen
Our house has a fairly open layout, so the kitchen is only cut off from the living room and dining room by an island. Most of the wood in the house is maple, and the furniture is mostly olive green.
I love the deep red that my husband painted the kitchen, but now we are stuck picking colors for the other rooms.

Sorry but I am still stuck on re-doing my whole living room. I was originally thinking of Mirage Maple wood Arizona but I found out the floor guy made a mistake. They don't come in 5 inches width. Any other brand that is good? Home depot Expo said Bruce hardwood engineerring floors are not good.
Is 5 inch what I should use for a modern and traditional look which is the type of furniture I have for dining and living room that are connected.
Shaw makes an excellent laminate, I have it in sun room and kitchen, mine is 7 3/4

I am SO excited about moving to our little mountain village in Spain at the end of March. I want everything to be perfect, and have spent the last two months clearing out cupboards and selling or giving away stuff that won’t fit into either of the two houses.
The first house, Casa Alta, will become a holiday rental property; the second, La Otra Casa, will be our retirement home. I have juggled with floor plans and furniture layouts to try to get everything from a 3-bedroom house in Johannesburg to fit into an (already furnished) 3-bedroom and an empty 2-bedroom. And my biggest concern? There’s not enough space for Kevin’s T-shirts … 38 at the last count!
I have been ruthless with my clothes, deciding that silk evening gowns and cocktail dresses will not be ‘de rigueur’ for the village, and I have consigned these to a local second-hand clothing shop.
But Kevin feels that T-shirts are very appropriate … and insists on keeping them all, particularly the ones with logos: e.g. Hong Kong Sevens (two of these); a Toronto Maple Leafs’ hockey jersey; Spain and England football shirts; ICC Cricket World Cup (South Africa 2003); O2 England ruby shirt; Compaq BMW Williams F1 Team shirt; HSBC Jaguar Team shirt … and, worst of all, a shirt with the logo “ZMA Earthmovers Team, 27 of June 2007.” (If you see Kevin wearing any of these in the village, I’m not with him, ok?)
