Mahogany Dining Furniture

Some are the white water spots but the main ones are from a heated pan ... even though they had a towel underneath.

Not sure about a burn, but with water spots my mom always went for the mayonaise, wierd I know, but it's amazing, you smear it on (a bunch) leave it for about 10 minutes, then come back with a papertowel and wipe off. You might be able to see a tiny bit, but it's usually gone. I think it's the oil from the mayo, not sure but it works.

Open concept kitchen, table and chairs and such are now a maple finish, new kitchen is a mahogany finish. Dining area runs right into kitchen. Should I have matching furniture?

No, just find other ways to tie the rooms together, for example, if you have stainless steel appliances, get a stainless steel vase or bowl for the table. If you have red placemats, get red accents for the kitchen. Having wood that is different finishes, but still looks good together shows that you put some thought and creativity into the room. It won't look like you walked into the showroom and cashed in on the maple finish close-out sale.

I have a lovely table which has had years of build-up from reading newspapers on it. I have tried polishing using regular furniture polish but the dark stains refuse to budge. Can anyone help?

All I want is to get the old dark lacquer off and get to the mahogany. After that just put a nice finish on it. I do not want to totally strip it - just get that dark stuff off. Many thanks for any suggestions!

I have found that denatured alchohol used with ooo or oooo steel wool will just remove the dark gunk....then you will be safe to put a new finish on your furniture...be careful in disposing of the steel wool to prevent spontaneous combustion.

The suite includes a buffet, a two piece lighted china closet, an oval table with two leaves, six chairs and two captain's chairs with the original upholstery. It is either mahogany or walnut (I am not sure). It is from 1970 and is in excellent condition.

well White is an excellent brand, high end.Today that set might cost $15k. In 1970 it probably cost $2000.your not going to get more than the original cost .I'd guess $1200.
