What color should I paint my living and dining rooms?

I just bought new furniture and was wondering what color to use for the walls. This is the couch:

and this is the dining room set:

Any ideas? (Specific color names would be appreciated)
By the way, this is just one long room to be divided into a dining area and a living area, so the color has to go with both...

Pale gold would be great, or caramel.

What is the best affordable wood for outdoor furniture?

We need a new dining table and chairs for the garden. We can't afford teak but there appears to be a wide selection of products in either acacia wood or eucalyptus wood. Which of these two woods is the best choice and why? Of course if anyone knows a place to buy low cost teak furniture then please let us know. Thanks

I'm just a poor good ole boy, but if you can afford to buy any wood furniture for outside, especially a dining table and chairs, I'd say you could afford the teak.

Has anyone shipped furniture from the UK to Istanbul?

I wish to send two sofas, a dining table, chairs and two long garden benches. If anyone has experience of shipping procedures and the paperwork required, or recommendations of shipping firms and prices (pref. from experience rather than Google), I'd be most grateful of the advice. I am a citizen of both the UK and Turkey if that makes a difference re. taxes or paperwork.

Need paint color ideas for dining room - samples everywhere!?

It has beige/tan carpet, med oak furniture and is between office which is lt/med green (garden fairy Lowes) and foyer which is dark taupe. Reds seem too formal, I hate pink. Overall house is casual and coastal, greens & tans. Orange seems too jarring. No windows in the room. Chair rail and trim in white. Could do different colors upper and lower wall.

Dining rooms are very nice in a cream color. I used Sherwin Williams "Creme" for mine, with accents done in a deeper cream-gold color that was on the same paint sample card, I think, called "Straw Doll" (Sherwin Williams #1365). I painted it so it could have a chair rail... darker color below the rail and lighter above. You could also use a strip of wallpaper around the middle, one of the fancy border designs, like a greek key design.

The cream/gold combination goes well with eating, and it lets you use green tableware with gold/yellow accents. It will be just perfect with the other nearby colors. And it will perk up the carpet to have the gold color just above it, while the room won't feel as close as it would if done entirely in a dark color.

How was Roman housing similar to our home today and how did it differ?

The lower class Romans (plebeians) lived in apartment houses, called flats, above or behind their shops. Even tradesmen might have chosen to live in an apartment-building compound over their store, with maybe renters on the upper stories. Their own apartments might be quite roomy, sanitary and pleasant, occasionally with running water. But others were not that nice.
In the flats an entire family (grandparents, parents, children) might all be crowded into one room, without running water. They had to haul their water in from public facilities. Fire was a very real threat because people were cooking meals in crowded quarters, and many of the flats were made of wood. They didn't have toilets in the flat so they had to use public ones.
The upper class Romans (patricians) lived in single family homes, which in Ancient Rome meant the great grandparents, grandparents, parents, and kids of one family lived in a home together. Homes were made, quite often, of brick with red tile roofs, with rooms arranged around a central courtyard.
The windows and balconies faced the courtyard, not the street, to keep homes safe from burglars. There were paintings on the walls and beautiful mosaics on the floor. There was very little furniture, and no carpeting. Wealthy Romans might have a house with a front door, bedrooms, an office, a kitchen, a dining room, a garden, a temple, an atrium, a toilet, and a private bath.

Roman housing was similar to our houses today because they had a kitchen, bedrooms, a front door, an office, and a dining room. However, nowadays most people have carpeting in their homes and don’t have mosaics on the floor. Nearly all of us probably have more furniture in our homes than the Ancient Romans. Also, almost all homes now have running water and a toilet, while in Rome, only the wealthy Romans did. Another major difference is that now all homes have advanced technology (computer, television) and in Ancient Rome that was unheard of.
