it's a small room, maybe 12 x 12, with a French door (to a little sunroom), the stairs to the second floor, and 2 entrances. Ten feet may seem like no big deal, but they're a challenge. How can I decorate the top 2/3 of this room? It's bright yellow with a crystal chandelier......at the entranceway, there are 2 round columns also 10 feet high, any suggestions to warm things up? I have hardwood floors...thanks!
I've seen high ceilings taken care of in two ways.
1) A wide wallpaper border that is not too intrusive, or
2) Buy some nice moulding to place around the perimeter of the entire room near the ceiling. Drop it 1 1/2 - 2 ft. and paint the moulding and the portion above it the same color as the ceiling.
The second would be my choice for you since the room, with columns and chandelier sounds rather formal for a sun room.

I like casual but elegant furniture. I'm trying to decide if I'll like this set. The people at the store think it might be too formal for my taste, but I think it looks kind of country. Thanks for any advice.
It's sort of a "queen anne meets the country cousin" style. This is actually a poorly conceived furniture design; it looks like it's trying awfully hard to be a formal "Queen Anne" set (the turning of the legs, the dark mahogany etc), but those horizontal slats on the chairs are pure country.
This is not casual in the least ~ it's the chair backs that are giving you the illusion of being a country set.

It's 18th century English.
Saltram House is a magnificent English Georgian mansion It was built in the middle of the 18th century incorporating parts of a Tudor house already on the site. The house contains its original contents including collections of furniture, paintings, pottery and porcelain. The John Parker who employed Robert Adam was responsible for a great part of these collections. He probably received advise from Sir Joshua Reynolds who was his friend and often visited the house. There are 10 portraits by Reynolds at Saltram dating mostly from the 1770s. There are also examples of Chippendale furniture and Wedgewood vases.

About 320 sq.feet. french doors going into the family room you will see the fire place from the dining room, kitchen off to other side. My house is decorated rustic,which I dont want to change. The design ideas need to fit into a rustic,cabin like feel.
Ideas from colors,designs,wall hanging,lay-out furniture ect..
Because the room is large I could welcome a corner coffee nook or sitting area?

In the absence of Laurence Llewelyn Bowen or Linda Barker, early man shrugged the need to adorn his home in the fineries of MDF board furniture and rather begin the process of creating a comfortable home for his family that was centered about the fireplace in a very practical solution to bring the living room, dining room and bedroom into the single abode solving many issues we seem to have made worse these days. Sociability for one was at it’s height in our early ancestry. Granted, you were likely to be stabbed wandering accidentally onto your neighbours garden but let’s face facts that was replaced by shooting in the Americas and is still sadly a popular pastime.
